Laptop recommendation

So my wife has a part time employee who needs a laptop for her work. It doesn't have to be fancy or large screen. I actually went ahead and bought a refurbished Thinkpad Z60t for her, and it seemed quite nice, except that it came missing a memory board (i.e. advertised as 512MB and actually had 256MB) and the security chip in it had an embedded password from the previous owner which could not be erased (Lenovo says you have to replace the system board if you lose the password). So I'll be returning it. It cost me $700 which I expect to be getting back soon. So anyway, I thought I'd find out from some of he bright, experienced folks here on CP what they'd recommend. I see that I could get her a new dell Inspiron 1501 for about the same price, but I've heard that the Inspiron's are a bit flimsy. So, what are your ideas for me if I'm going to spend no more than $800 for a laptop? Thanks!

I'd look at Asus and Acer rather than Dell. Asus machines have an incredible amount of access to components (even the CPU) and a zero-pixel defect warranty. Acer machines are solid too - I'm on my second Acer laptop at the moment (the only reason I didn't buy Asus this time was that they didn't have the spec I was looking for; Acer comes a close second in maintainability).
