What's wrong with my app?
-
hi guys, this is a message for anybody with an interest in digital imaging and a spare few minutes. I've had help from a number of CP users before, and I'm calling on you again. Here goes: I have written a application in my spare time for complex batch image processing (IGP - second link in sig). Sales are ok, but not as strong as I was hoping. I need to find out what's wrong with it (not hearing much from customers, when I do I fix it asap). Is it too hard to use, to complicated, not enough features etc? I need specifics. So, if anyone fancies giving it a try, I need negative feedback (so I can fix the problems)! I find it hard to be objective when I'm this close to the app. Thanks in advance Andy

Although I've downloaded yours and found it user-friendly, I don't use it often to need that type of functionality. Also, Image Magick does some similar stuff (minus GUI) for free, and that one's been around much longer.

There are several causes: Supply/Demand - How many people really "need" your product? Advertisement - Are you reaching your target demographic? Price - closely related to Supply/Demand. Customer Service - Are user problems being fixed in a timely manner? Usability factor - Is the program easy to use/intuitive? How about the UI? Are there 2 settings (Simple/Advanced)? You might want to consider making the program shareware or some other way of letting the user check out the program before purchasing it.

you tell me what's wrong with mine, and i'll tell you what's wrong with your's. deal ? i suspect the answer in both cases is going to be "Not much. There's just no market for such a thing." back in 2001, i was doing 10 or 20 registrations per day, now i'm happy to get that per week.

Personally, I think there's enough of a market out there for both of you. Since you're clearly targeting smaller animals, if he were to target a larger species I think your work would complement each other. I'm just surprised no one has considered marketing software of this sort to hyper intelligent shades of the color blue.

That is my fear. Oh well, I enjoyed developing it and do get positive feedback from users that "need" it. I'll keep marketing and maintaining it. Any ideas for a new project? What do you need?

A full-featured UML designer which also produces nice diagrams and it's not slooooooooowwwwww and maybe integrates with Visual Studio. I've tried many, but no one is really what I'm looking for.

ThumbNailer Site:
ThumbNailer v8 is available. Check out the list of new features.
FYI the site has a broken link http://www.smalleranimals.com/htdocs/dcforum/DCForumID3/383.html#[^]
I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:
