http://numenta.com/[^] Hi all, I guess that i should have given you an idea of what this is all about. My mistake. Its not just another artificial intelligence product. Its a software modelling of the human brain, specifically the neocortex. The software is a framework for implementing intelligent machines. Its currently available for download on linux and mac osx platforms, but i suspect that there would be a port to windows. For those who have read the book "On Intelligence" by Jeff Hawkins, this framework is the software mapping of the biological idea. -- modified at 11:06 Wednesday 7th March, 2007

I rarely read a link someone has posted without at least saying what it's about. Oh, I'm sorry. You meant comments on the link? My bad...

no comments, since I will not click on links without at least a small description of what it's supposed to be, and that it's work safe.

Looks quite interesting. I just can't help the cynical "oh, geez, another artificial stupidity product." Still, I should be more open minded! Several things bother me about that site though right off the bat... * I have to download stuff to read the documentation * I have no idea what platform this stuff runs on. If it's on the website, it's not obvious. * What about some real examples / example data illustrating the technology right on the website, without me having to download stuff? I'm suspicious. Marc

            1. Brad will like it.
            2. Decent use of CSS.
            3. I know that the site is numenta.com, so why does the page title say this?
            4. There's an awful lot of text blocked together on the home page.
            5. Too much jargon on the home page - Normally, by the time I've gotten to the Buzzword Bingo or Jargon Soup I'll have left the site.
            6. For more information on Numenta, see About Numenta. Well thank you for treating me like a complete idiot - I think I could have figured this out by myself with the honking big clue on the lefthand side of the page.
            7. The link to the blog doesn't actually take me to a blog.
            8. In the People page, Harry Saal looks to be naked and that's just frightening. Plus, why does his job title list a court case?
            9. I give up. What am I supposed to be looking for?

Yep, a naked guy named Harry can never be good... I dunno. My reaction would be, umm, i dunno, well, maybeeee SPAM

Not much to say about that, it's software for intelligent computing. (That's what the title of the page says)

I thought I was the only one! When I am on client sites I can't just visit links willy-nilly. Accidental porn still gets accidental fired.

That's a very practical perspective. As for myself, I simply don't feel like chasing links unless it's something that interests me. Also, some of the more insipid ones are also the most prone to spyware, viruses, etc. so it's nice to have a notion as to the subject matter.
