How is this monitor? I was just considering buying it yesterday. It's not exactly necessary, but I can certainly use it. I can only imagine how sweet it would be to have Visual Studio on the main screen, flanked by the MSDN doc viewer and Firefox/Outlook on either side.

if i weren't using it for simulation, honestly, the 30" center panel would be more than enough real estate for development. The 30" (it's a Dell 3007WPF in the center) is just insanely huge (like in an awesome-i-can't-believe-i-ever-coded-on-anything-less sort of way). but then again, it's nice to put CP up on a side panel and have MSDN over on the other, so if you have the scrilla, go get one! You'll need a beefy graphics card too, at least 512MB w/ DVI-dual-link support. (I'm driving mine with this: http://www2.pny.com/NVIDIA-Quadro-FX-4500-X2-PCIE--P1805C39.aspx[^] ) Oh, and don't mistakenly plug up the center panel with a non dual-link dvi cable... it makes it kinda work but not, like only a few select resolutions, enough to make you wonder if you have a bad vid card or driver..

is this a single cable setup, or would 3 DVI ports be needed? The fullup configuration's currently beyond my means, but I've been considering picking up the 20" 1600x1200's in the medium term future and adding a 30" centerscreen display in a year or three.

Does anybody know where I can find some cool 4960x1600 wallpaper images for my new monitor[^]? [edit] ok... so it's not _mine_ per se, but, as you can imagine, I'll be spending much more time back in the lab now. ;P [edit] -- modified at 10:06 Thursday 8th March, 2007

If my husband sees that, I'm in trouble. He's obsessed with screens and tvs.

I think the bigger problem is finding source images that big in the first place. Very few images of that width are uploaded at all. I'd suggest making a 1 image per monitor composite: total size of 1600x4940, but with image breaks on the monitor edge. IIRC ultramon can do this for you automatically, but I just merge the resized images side by side in paint and set my desktop using the Tile option.

I have some suggestions, but you will need to send the monitor to me first, so I can be sure the wallpapers I have in mind will look good.

As far as I can see from the picture, those are all Dell monitors. It's stupid to pay $4,000 for $2,400 worth of monitors plus unified stand.

www.miszou.com[^] has some nice daily sunrise wallpapers (Check out this one[^] for example). It even has a little client application that can download and install the latest images for you. Unfortunately, the largest image size is 1600x1200, which falls a little short of your requirements! (I might upgrade the camera at some point, so I can take larger images - there seems to be quite a number of people out there with monitors larger than 1600x1200! On the other hand, I don't want to serve out images that are TOO large, as larger images will cut into my already restricted bandwidth...)

3 dvi ports, with at least 1 of which supports dual-link dvi
