Well, my tastes vary, depending on my mood and what i'm programming. Sometimes I like a hard core techno, sometimes something down and head thrasing like Metallica or Godsmack. Occasionally I like classical (mostly Bach), or even some swing/ska. I can honestly say i've never programmed to barry manilow.

I prefer to fire up Spinner.Com and listen to some good old 80's. Brings back the days of staying up late hacking on a Vic 20.

Nice to see programmers have good taste in music! I like a wide variety of music, but my favorite style is Industrial. Front 242, Covenant, KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Funker Vogt, Apoptygma Berzerk, Kraftwerk.

I listen to the same music while programming that I do normally and that varies immensely. Here is a small sample of my current playlist: - Rage Against The Machine: Renegades (This is probably their best work to date. To bad it is their last.) - Paul Oakenfold: Tranceport - Paul van Dyk: Out There And Back - Linkin Park: Hybrid Theory - Dracula 2000 Soundtrack Later, Dustin

JPop, and lots of it. Looking through my playlist, I see.. - Hamasaki Ayumi (and all the remixes... gotta love the euro-remixes) - globe (keiko! keiko!) - Every Little Thing - Two Mix (just becuase it tends to be upbeat) - Utada Hikaru - Maeda Ai - Dreams Come True - Kouda Mariko (her pop cd's) - Matsu Takako (I'm addicted to the yume no shizuku vid) - Imai Miki (more mellow stuff) ... lots others ^_^ Jim Wuerch www.miwasoft.com Quote from my readme files: "This is BETA software, and as such may completely destroy your computer, change the alignment of the planets and invert the structure of the universe."

Hendrix, Ozzy, Nirvana and Quake Sound Track, are usually choice. But when I got mad programming (believe me it happens) my first choice are Metallica and Venom.

Hey People, I have to say I'm quite suprising by the sheer force in numbers of you MFC programmers who like rock music. Any hip-hoppers in the lounge today? Our offices favorites: Wu-Tang, Dr.Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Hitman etc.... Regards, Paul Barrass

I tend to put something in and let it run for days on end. For the past 2 weeks I have been listening to Korn:Issues on repeat, before that Marilyn Manson for a few days, and prior to that, get this, The Beatles (White album and Blue Hits album) for about a month.

*grin* at risk of incriminating myself I will answer *before* finding out if anyone else shares my tastes. I have all my CD's on MP3 ( 50 odd MP3 CD's ) and I listen to music like Accept, Kix, Motley Crue, Faster Pussycat, Def Leppard, U.D.O., Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc. For variety, I've lately been downloading 12" remixes of 80's pop songs like Prince, U2, and one hit wonders like 'You spin me like a record' and 'I wanna be a cowboy'. Hey, I'm 32 years old in a few months, give me a break !!:) Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. Hey... this question has gathered quite some response.. My current fav is the Million Dollar Hotel Soundtrack. For night-hacks I prefer silent stuff. kinda dd, but if coding doesn't keep me awake, music won't ;-) Ry Cooder is great for a long&lonely night. Trois Coleurs soundtracks. Well... lot's of soundtracks, that is. some harder stuff to speed me up(doesn't work always) : Hole, Subway to Sally (german medieval hardcodepunkfolkrock), What puzzles me is our society's obsession with music.Music for breakfast, Music on the way to work. Music in thecubicle (Earphones, that is). Way Home. Some Music to relax. Muzak in the shopping mall. No tv/radio advertising without music. Music to relax at the evening. And perhaps... some music (auto-fading after half-an-hour) to go to sleep. Not everything for everybody - but sure, lots for most. Is it we are afraid to hear our hartbeat? or cover the permanent background noise of our technocratic society? Is it a CIA plot? Or is music just cool? Peter

Have you ever heard the song "Rhythm of Life?" "...The Rhythm of Life is a powerful beat... rhythm on the inside, rhythm on the feet, rhythm on the outside, rhythm on the street, and the Rhythm of Life is a powerful beat!" (At least, I think those are the words; bear with me). Music, music, music; this world would sure suck without it :)

Let There Be Rock (live version from "If You Want Blood") - Just turn it up to 11 and forget about all the other BS that ruined my day
