Two choices, Which one will you choose if you were me?

At the end of the day what matters more than language, managers, co workers, etc etc is your interest in the project. Managers come and go, most OO languages are really just an abstraction of the same old ideas. Pick the one that you think will give you the motivation to get out of bed on friday mornings.

Go to Dept.B will give me more motivation, because that girl I like is in Dept.B. But, I have a little worried about, the love between us may affect our work. :( Thanks for your reply. :rose:

Thats silly, Im talking about motivation for the work. If you go to Dept B and she is not interested in you what are you going to do then?

Yes. I had that happen to me a couple of times -- requests for fixing computers so that they can play computer game comes up at odd hours :). The odd hour requests were never about the work though. Thomas

Ditch department B. If you were married to her they wouldn't allow it and since you aren't don't make a dumb decision. Besides if you both work in different areas you will have more to talk about than if you worked in the same place. I don't know about anyone else but when I first met my wife all I could think about was her and if I had needed to write software (during that time) while in her proximity I would have gotten nothing done. I'd probably have installed about 500 web cams:-O and that would have been right before they fired me.

Choice A: 1, Learn a new program language - Java, I am familiar with MS languages, like C++, C#, VB, ASP.NET, but know little about Java. 2, If I want to stay in department A, I have to learn Java. Choice B: 1, Go to department B, because the languages department B used are MS languages. 2, But the manager of department B is a narrow guy, so you know... Which one will you choose if you were me?:)
I'd go for A based upon what you've said. Java isn't going anywhere any time soon. It's a popular language especially for middleware and it should pan out for you. If your .Net skills are good I'd really recommend A. Nothing like strengthening a strong skill with another unrelated skill.

Now I like in Kunming China. So I like the verse "天气常如二三月,花技不断四时春。". And I'm so sorry to use the word "amour". My English is to poor. "love in office" is a great hundred cute than "amour".

Take it easy, and just write it.

It's my quote but I don't know if it's ever been used by others. I coined it off a "eat to live" bumper-sticker and all I could think of was the quote you are asking about. My clients call me on Sunday afternoons at 10:00PM at night. They call all the time and want the dumbest things off-hours. It would be one thing if a critical system was down but that never has happened yet. So that's my quote and my life at times.:sigh:

I think the problem is that I'm way to relaxed with my current customers and they just *feel* like it's fine to do. I've really modified my candor with all new business and while I'm still myself I'm not nearly as open about things. I arrive, I meet, we talk, we plan and then I leave. I don't stay to chat under any context. I get the scope and I boogie out. That seems to be the difference maker.

Yes, so it's called "spring city".

Rather pick the narrow language than the narrow boss.

I work with my girlfriend and there are a bunch of other married and co-habiting partners at work. Work doesn't actively encourage it but so long as we don't make it an issue they don't make it an issue. They wouldn't make decisions based on it for one.

What kind of Java development? Seriously, it makes a difference. Java is a fine language but there is a lot more to Java development than just the language. If you get stuck in an EJB, J2EE situation then you might regret it. At work I face a similar situation (no narrow bosses though) and I have had to fight to make sure that we use Java smartly. In this case GRails and Groovy for web-dev.

I think you should go to department B. As I think you might be good enough MS languages so you can proove your self better in that field. As well as impress her ;). And that manager why you taking him much seriously. Just ignor him through ur heart and you be the happy. And ya learning java is also a good thing but for that you need some time.
