Vista and IE Crash
-
I was asked to test one old product on Vista and I had to install the Enterprise edition on my working PC, replacing my second XP. Today, the IE crashed and will not work again. The only new thing I remembered doing today is to install the Flash 9. Interestingly, .NET 2 sample application using the webbrowser control works, but whenever I start the IE, it states (in Japanese) "Connecting..." and then stays in that state until I kill the process. Anyone had a similar problem and found a solution. Personally, I do not have any plan to install the Vista...nothing impressive so far. For instance, I have used MUI on XP and thought will get a similar effect on the Enterprise edition but found myself having to read many how-tos without even knowing where to start since I used the MSDN volume license version and had to copy the ISO images on 4-CDs to install. Anyway, finished testing the product in Vista, back to a simplier XP :) Best regards, Paul.

Does it actually freeze, or can you go around in the menu, etc? If you can go to the menu, theres an option somewhere in the tools/connections tab menu, called Lan settings or something liek that. In there, I usually unselect Automatically Detect Proxy settings, and that solves the long wait "Connecting..." times for me. HTH

Someone above slapped your face for daring install Vista in the first place. Technically speaking though, I think Microsoft has painted themselves into a corner by making the stand-alone Internet Explorer behave differently than the web browser ActiveX control (protected mode among other things). For most developers out there, it means the doubling of the test matrix. I don't see the incentive to agree to that.

Freezes completely, and not even the close button on the title bar responses. Best regards, Paul.

I have not read that yet, and never knew - simply put Vista newbie. Any link to some of those tech materials? Best regards, Paul.
