I haven't tried it, but I like the blog quote "We have been designing and implementing an innovative and powerful solution to address the mapping problem in ADO.NET vNext." Just for once, I'd like to hear somebody say that they were working on something mundane and flawed. Just for the honesty factor.

I went to a presentation on the EF yesterday, and I asked the presenter (quite excellent) what about all the existing ORM-based tools out there and how does EF position itself with regards to those. Her reply was "that's a HUGE question". I didn't feel I got a real solid answer, but she wasn't a MS person either. She did say that a lot of the ORM people are excited about EF and are working with MS on it. Marc

I think they were waiting for Linq and other parts to come into play. That does help put the final touches on internal object management. There are probably a lot of developers that have not even touched any form of business objects yet, but will soon have the chance.
