I was just reading a short article on FoxNews about celebrities and their phobias. What are your phobias? I am afraid of spiders and crowded places because I am afraid a fire will break out. I was afraid of fire for years and wasn't sure why. Turns out I mimicked my parents and took the hot car cigarette lighter to my lips as a toddler and hated all hot things after that. I didn't even try to light a match until college. I used to keep a car door open while starting the car in case the car started on fire during startup and then I could make a quicker getaway. I finally conquered that fear. I still hate spiders and will panic at packed places (like the mall during the holidays). Not sure if I will get over those. Anyone willing to admit your phobias? BTW, what would the fear of not being able to read CP be?

I used to be terrified of heights, until I finally realized that I don't fall down very often, and the chances of me falling off of anything is really very small.

I never really gave phobias must thought and never really thought i had any real fears till came across a situation as an engineering intern. I was at a construction site and had to walk across a beam about the width of a desk that was at least 5 stories high. I walked the beam but the guys on the other side were laughing so hard because the life line i was hooked to was vibrating so much due to my shaking hands. that is when i realize i have a very big fear of heights.

Social anxiety. I panic everytime I need to talk in a meeting or when I am the center of attention.

Absolutely. I saw a WWII video on PBS one time where GIs were flushing German soldiers out of the bushes with flame throwers. The Germans would come running out all ablaze. Even in black & white with no sound you could feel their agony.

From what I understand, the use of flame throwers has been band from use. And they are considered a weapon of terror. Completely understandable… it would be a horrible way to die. :~

I have a phobia for this insect[^], which I don't know how is it called in English, nor I want to know. X| I don't like crowded places, but I wouldn't call it a phobia.

Snakes. Don'tknow why as I've never been bitten by one. Its to the point that I couldn't go into the reptile house at the St. Louis zoo a few years back. X| Heights as heights don't bother me. If I'm on an unstable platform that tends to bother me. :sigh: :)

Judah, I just saw yesterday that there is a Messianic congregation in my town (a small city of @50K, with maybe 100K in the entire county). Several months ago, I noticed a group of people at a restaurant answering their phones with "Shabbat Shalom" and making reference to "Rabbi said such-and-such." I assumed the group was headed to the Messianic congregation Columbus OH. Perhaps they were just headed around the corner.

So, go back to your GameBoy and leave the grown-ups alone." -- someone who surely knows whereof he speaks. 'Dhimmitude' is a state of mind.

Yes, God is opening many Jewish eyes to Messiah. He's also opening many gentile Christian eyes to the Hebraic roots of faith in Messiah.

Cool thread... just noticed it now. The only phobia I'm aware of is of spiders... I don't have anything against them - in fact I'll try to catch them and put them outside gently when I see them about the house, but getting near the bigger ones starts my heart racing and my stomach tightening. I don't mind letting small ones run on my hands though... I suppose I do have a fear of death... and I can be easily daunted by new and difficult knowledge domains - I start to procrastinate reeeally badly sometimes, like right now for this compiler construction assignment due in 32 hours! :)
