Mine just happened. Our entire department was informed it was being outsourced....we are 2 months from deployment. :omg: They are scrapping the entire project, and having the outsourcing company start from scratch. :omg: It wasn't a matter of the application not going well, or not working. We were actually ahead of schedule, and were in parallel testing with several business units (with excellent results and feedback BTW).:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Does it really matter? I don't know who it is, nor do I really care. We got hosed...period. They cleaned out the entire department. It just sounds strange that we were so close to enterprise-wide deployment, and they decided to have some outsourcing company start from scratch.

That makes it even more stupid. Did the decision came from someone very high up inthe management with no clue at all.

I don't know why I've got the impression that they're not going to start from scratch but just finish it and maintain it from that point. Of course the company they've outsourced to is less expensive than maintaining the employees. Well that's what the world has come to. Bigger profits for the bigger organizations.

That's your problem, Management don't like it when IT project's are doing well. IT projects are meant to fail. That's why the outsourcing move, They are able to get failing IT project at Half the Price, so then they can re-employ you at twice the price to fix it! IT's the economics.

                      Kind Regards, Gary

That's a pretty quick turnaround isnt it? How can they possibly have a smooth transition with 10 days? Totally stupid.

There really is NO turnaround. Since they are starting anew, they are simply using our existing project documentation. They will probably do their own documentation, but will use our extensive documentation also. I guess the rule of thumb is "don't document systems. It will make you easily replaceable."

Good Lord. With a management team making decisions like that, I wouldn't want to work for them anyway. I certainly hope you all are getting some kind of severance package and assistance with job placement; if not, then it would just speak to my first point about your mess.

You and a couple of co-workers go out quickly and start your own company. Then put a bid in lower than the now outsourcing company. You and your co-workers already know the project so you should be able to complete it sooner than the other company starting from scratch. And yall keep a job.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck to you in the future! At my previous employer, we had 2 IT development groups. My group was in charge of a web application, and the second group was in charge of a desktop application. The company president decided to get rid of the desktop group and outsource the new version of the desktop software. I quit immediately after. My vindication is that the outsourced project is now about 2 YEARS overdue. The company president's justification that he was able to hire "a legion of programmers with Master's degrees" for the cost of our small IT department apparently didn't take into account the fact that they don't deliver. Again, best of luck in find a new (and better) job.

That's why you NEVER, EVER write documentation for your project. Sure, let the outsourcing company take over a 3 year project without any comments or documentation, it would take outsourcing company 4 months just to get started modifying anything. :) On a more serious note good luck looking for another job. Start sending out resumes right away, this very evening, don't delay. Smaller companies have ~2 weeks turnaround, between initial contact and offer, larger ones may take up to 3 months. If I were I would also slack the 10 days that you got left (but then I'm bad like that, that's just the cost of their stupid decision).

You and a couple of co-workers go out quickly and start your own company. Then put a bid in lower than the now outsourcing company. You and your co-workers already know the project so you should be able to complete it sooner than the other company starting from scratch. And yall keep a job.
