Hope somebody can offer me some good advice. I met this guy almost two years ago in an ICQ chat room. Well we started emailing each other a lot and sending pics and chatting a lot. This month he finally flew over to meet and he stayed in a hotel in town. We had a lot of fun together it was great, but towards the end of the first week I found he really did not know anything about computers :(( and was just really a user. I think I would hate to stay in a relationship where I was totally the technology savvy partner. Is it right for me to dump him, just because he does not understand OSes and can not program? Am I being selfish wanting somone who can boot from a floppy? I hope I have not bothered anyone by posting this here, but I thought I would turn to my friends first. :rose: Janice :rose:
Is it right for me to dump him, just because he does not understand OSes and can not program? As an admin you should be accustomed to LART'ing. If it turns out he's incapable or unwilling to learn... Well, wouldn't you say it's grounds for account termination? But I'd also say that if you've kept in touch with this person for two years and didn't find out he's a computer illiterate until you met him IRL, maybe his computer skills matches your person skills? :-> Am I being selfish wanting somone who can boot from a floppy? I don't think so, it's just common sense to look for someone that knows at least the most basic of procedures during an earthquake in the SF bay area. Rather, stay away from someone that don't know what to do.

I'm a software developer and as so I have to work with users too often. I find they really give me headaches. Most of the people I work with are male and I prefer the smart ones by far. I really enjoy stimulating conversation and discovering, having to teach a guy anything doesn't interest me. If we get in to a long term relationship and I have continually have to explain things to him I'll be driven crazy. :rose: Janice :rose:
Janice wrote: I'm a software developer and as so I have to work with users too often. Everyone is something and is good at what he/she is doing and may think as the people he/she interacts to as users. For instance when you go to an info desk at a bank and you inquire some information doesn't the desk officer there find you a loser because you don't know abount accounts, money and interest and all the information you are inquiering for? Doesn't that person get pissed off when everybody is asking the same questions again and again? Should that person wait for someone to ask the smart question? Janice wrote: I really enjoy stimulating conversation and discovering, having to teach a guy anything doesn't interest me. Were you talking about computers only? That's not good news. I am sure there are things he could teach you all the time. ;) ;) Now the real piece of advice: If your heart feels smth for him don't let it go away so far. If not, fell free to dump him. Scroll to see the rest... 1) Anybody that wants to meet someone with the intent of starting a romantic relationship based solely on ICQ chat exchanges is a fuckin' loser (actually BOTH people are fuckin' losers). 2) If you post an obviously false photo of yourself, people here are gonna think you're a guy posing as a chick. In fact, you said that you exchanged photos with each other. How about showing us one of the pics you supposedly sent to bait the other loser into buying an airline ticket just to meet you. 3) If you are a chick, and you don't want to "teach a guy anything", you're not really a chick (every women *I've* ever met thinks they have something to teach a man), so you're just a true flaming bitch who cares nothing about anyone or anything but herself, and I hope you die alone with only your cats to watch your final minutes on this earthly plane. 4) Who truly gives a rat's ass about your lovelife unless it directly affects one of us? 5) You've been registered here since February of this year, and I can't honestly remember seeing a post from you before today. "Friends"? I think that's stretching it a bit until you've posted a few hundred messages and gotten your hands dirty with some truly meaningful topics (both here and in the Soapbox forum), and not the insufferable bilge water posts like this one. 6) Wasting my time on these kinds of posts really pisses me off. John, tell us what you really feel. Don't hold back like this; it is distressing to see such a namby-pamby post from you. You didn't even mention that her bio says Norway but her phrasing and use of slang says American.

'Janice', it seems that the CPians have had a discussion and decided you're really a guy. Could you please prove them wrong for me ? Just take another photo ( in different undies if you could ), and this time have a book in one hand, ( any book on C++ or the STL will be fine ), and a sign that says 'I am woman, see me browse' in the other. Conversely, could you tell me where you got the photo from ? If it's copyrighted I should remove it from my CP screensaver.... Christian, I tried taking some pictures at work today although I could not find a STL book, but they did look very nice and I was not impressed, so over the week I will see if I can get some Pics done in a studio or by a professional. Yes I do worry about my appearance, but am equally surprised so many others seem to judge me by it here. Are all Girls who work in computing meant to be non attractive ? :rose: Janice :rose:
