Suprise this morning at work

What was the security doing?

Well, what they did was they had cut the power, so the security system only runs 6 hours on battery, then no one came out to put the power back on, so apparently they had cut the power on Friday night, then came back on Sunday and had all the time in the world to empty the office knowing that the alarm will not go off.

When we got to work this morning we had a nice surprise, they broke in last night and took as much as they could load. Now I'm missing my 17" LCD screen :(( Interesting thing is that they cut all the cables, even the display cables that runs from the monitor to the machines, so it renders them useless. They even took the entire fridge, with all the beer inside, and even had a few cause there were a few empties lying around.

Many, many, mnay years ago I was working in a business that got broken into over the christmas break and the guy decided to take a pot shot at a passing patrol car with a gun he found in the bosses desk draw. Needless to say the local constabulary retaliated and killed the reprobate. But not before they stormed the building, lobbing stun and tear gas grenades and doing untold damage. The smell of tear gas just does not go away and the blood stains on the stairs took a lot of cleaning (by someone else, not us!) Left there shortly thereafter: nice place to work until that took place!

We don't have a security on the premises, so we use a security company, but the security company said that is how they operate, cutting the power the day before so that the alarm battery can run out

They ripped every sensor out of the wall, and they aren't that easy to spot, so its also a bit funny for me, but I'll leave it there.

Sounds like a freaking Hollywood movie. Guns in desk drawers, crazy robbers, gung-ho police, blood on the stairs. Does your boss still keep a gun in his desk drawer?

This was in Long Beach back in the 80's. Lou, the boss, was an old man then (in his late 70's) and kept a couple of guns in his desk draw (I have no idea why). I'm sure he's long dead by now and Long Beach was not a particularly nice place at that time. Besides, by all accounts, the intruder opened fire and they just retaliated: they could have had no idea what weapons or intentions he had so I suppose they chose not to take any risks. My guess: I really never knew for sure.

Quite useless to cut the cables. I've seen it before on the office I work. They even smashed CRT monitors just because they were attached with anti-theft cables to the desks. I hope the company has insurance.

I really don't know: no one thought they were real. Or loaded.

Some time ago some burglars entered into our company during night. They entered from the ceiling, so they had to climb the entire factory, they needed to make a hole in the roof and then disconnect all the alarms. Once they did all those things they got all the laptops (without the power cords). The most incredible thing was that they grabbed a pentium 3 laptop that was very useful because it had serial port and in order to do some things was great, but they left a brand new HP laptop that was over one table. Those guys are incredible. The worst thing, we needed to spend money on new equipment, we needed to clean all the mess they left behind, but the worst thing is the feeling that you have after that has happened... X|

This statement was never false.

Our power drops about 5-8 times a night, but that is from the the supplier side, so they sometimes come out to check that every thing is alright, but I think this time they checked, and knowing the power drops often, but then comes back they just left. And so the power never came back on so the alarm could not reactivate. But of course, that's what I think, never actually heard security companies side of the story
