So this is probably for the ladies but maybe a few guys might know... I worked 7 years of my life in the grease and solvent of a road and mountain bike shop here in Boise. I've built more wheels, overhauled more bottom brackets, pressed more headsets than I care to remember but it was the solvent in the solvent tank that we used to strip grease off cranks and chains that has ruined the skin on my finger tips. They are always very dry and pretty much any outdoor activity will have them cracked and bleeding in less than a day. I've been able to find a few good lotions ($12 - $16 per 32 ounces) that do a decent job but I haven't found anything yet that makes me go... DANG! That's the stuff. Why do I mention this at CP in the lounge? Two reasons. One I might need a drug test. Two, with the people we have here from all over the world (let's not forget the edge of the world, Bull Head City) there just might be someone in a place that isn't America who knows that their country produces the finest stuff there is for someone with hands like mine. Maybe you are German, Swedish, Japanese, Indian and yes even American but hopefully you know of something that does work. The ends of my fingers have scales of skin on them and right now I could simply flick one with other finger and start bleeding. Admittedly this is a bad case from thumbing through a 20 pound bag of screws all day Sunday but still. There's got to be a fix for that somewhere though probably not in Bull Head City... So if you know of something that works. Send me links, infomercials, mysterious packages delivered by lavish, clandestine women or just a brown box. I'll promise to give it a try so long as I can safely verify it isn't napalm or some other equally wonderful product... - Rex:cool::beer:

You might be surprised... I've found two products that actually work, and believe me, dry skin is a very large problem here. By age 30, a girl here has skin that would make an alligator proud unless she takes protective measures early on. Most opt for tattoos, so that at least they'll be colorful reptiles. Guys have no easier time, but it's more socially acceptable for a man to look like a 'rugged' desert rat. Me, I prefer to be vain and try to look and feel as young as possible, if only to preserve my own illusions. The best product I've found can't be found here, and I'd damn near kill for it. I found two bottles in a thrift store in Prescott, AZ, and bought them both. No one here will carry it, and the manufacturer begs off by telling me that they can't control what their retailers stock. It's by St. Ives, and called FresH2O lotion. It's almost completely odorless - a man doesn't need to be walking around smelling like a fruit salad - and completely greaseless. Alas, it's unavailable to me; even the St. Ives online store doesn't stock it, else I'd order a case. The second best is also by St. Ives, and though it's a far cry from the best, it's much better than any competitor's product. That would be St. Ives 24 Hour Moisture lotion. It's not nearly as good, but no other product I've found comes as close to the best for my needs. Their Aloe & Chamomile lotion is actually a better moisturizer, but the scent is - albeit very pleasant - more than I like to wear. Barring these options, you could just rub yourself down with bear grease next time you kill one bare-handed in your berry patch. I've heard that it's an excellent moisturizer, if a bit odiferous.

It must've been a burden for you to type this message! I can't imagine the pain.:) Maybe you should try moving. Some areas of the world are more humid than others. That would probably solve the problem. I hear the tropics are nice this time of year.

Which ever lotion you use, wrap a warm towel around you hands for 15 – 20 mins after you apply the lotion. This helps your skin absorb the lotion faster. and get well soon :-P

I have dry skin too and for many years never too it a big issue until I have spent sometime here in Japan and have being using the body lotions here. I have just gone back to start my old stuff, cocoa butter creams, and the result is cool. So, I will say try the Shea/Cocoa butter creams, especially those with Vitamin E. Palmers seems to be the leader in that area. I now buy them from Amazon.com; I hate the nude pictures on their home page - www.palmerssheabutter.com / www.palmerscocoabutter.com. Best regards, Paul.

Jesus Christ is LOVE! Please tell somebody.

You should check this out. It might not be wondrous, but I'd be amazed if it would be anything like anything else you know. I discovered it in a climbing shop, and it's made especially for climbers. It smells good, it moisturizes your skin, and repairs holes realllly fast. I love it, and will never go to a mountain without a fresh supply, but not sure it will help in your case. Worth a shot. It's pretty cheap here too, I use the BAR, I've used it for a few months and there's still some left. Check it out. "Clickety split"[^]

Pretty much like wine. The put the birds in a big bucket and people stump on them with their naked feet. The hard part is to filter the feathers. honestly I don't know, and I don't really want to know.

I had a similar problem after working with photo chemicals for a while - had to get a prescription for something with silicone in it. Found some stuff called Glysomed - has glycerine and silicone, and the smelly girly version has chamomile.

I'll have to find the name of the company but I use this stuff that is mostly bees wax so it's really thick. The other thing I use is from Mary Kay. They have this four step Satin Hands skin care line. There is this thick pink waxy stuff (I think it's step 1) that I love for my dry feet.

Send me links, infomercials, mysterious packages delivered by lavish, clandestine women or just a brown box. I'll promise to give it a try so long as I can safely verify it isn't napalm or some other equally wonderful product... - Rex:cool::beer:

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered process, husband to a murdered thread. And I will have my affinity, in this life or the next. - Gladiator. (Okay, not quite Gladiator but close.) I work to live. I can imagine the sinking feeling one would have after ordering my book, only to find a laughably ridiculous theory with demented logic once the book arrives - Mark McCutcheon
