Corrupt Downloads

How about wget? It could be an issue with Windows transferring the files out of the temp folder and into the directory they're going to get saved to.
We are certainly uncertain at least I'm pretty sure I am...
I'll check that.

Every zip file is malformed and cannot be opened. Everything. pdfs, exes, rar, zip, iso, etc. It all downloads ok but when it is executed/opened they all fail.

Does this happen with both HTTP and FTP?

I have a friend that has been having a very weird issue with his computer. He had WinXP 64bit on it but had too many compatibility issues with it so he put the 32bit version back on it. So after a fresh install of WinXP w/ SP2 + all windows updates he's now getting corrupt downloads. It doesn't matter what browser he uses every file we download on that machine is corrupt and will not open. The weird thing is he can play BF2142, etc online with no issues at all and browsing the web works just fine. I have tried testing the memory, chkdsk, reinstalling TCP/IP, windows SFC, disabled all firewalls, and got the latest drivers for the motherboard. Everything checks out. Has anyone ever had an issue with every download being corrupt? Google is very little help, mostly spammed with archive recovery software and junk.

I don't suppose the ethernet card was patched in firmware during the 64bit installation? are the correct drivers set for the ethernet card? upgrading firmware sometimes cause a misregistration on the drivers such that binary images come through corrupted, but text are fine.

Ah, didn't think of that. This particular board has 1 auto-install package for all motherboard/chipset/onboard device drivers so it could have done that. I'll look into this.

check the firmware version against the last official one from the manufacturer... the hardest part is how to patch it back. I ran into one that could not be patched back, it now has a shiney new network card and the built-in one is disabled.

It looks like this is the route I'll have to take. Thanks for the suggestion on what to check.

If it is an nForce 4 motherboard and he installed the firewall that comes with the motherboard, uninstall the firewall only use the network drivers provided. The firewall and other networking software, aside from the nic drivers, that are supplied with the nForce 4 chipsets have been know to cause this exact problem.
