somehow, Vista lost track of the printer driver for the network printer i use at work. so, every time i tried to print, it would tell me i had to install the driver. "Fine," says me, "Go install the fncking driver and trouble me no more!" “The specified print monitor is unknown," says Vista. "WTF?" Says me. Google. Google. Google. Bingo! Turns out that No, you can't install a printer driver from a remote server if the UAC is _dis_abled. That's right, _dis_abling the UAC _de_creases what you can do with your computer. That's the complete opposite of everything else the UAC does; i.e. _dis_abling the UAC gives you more control, in all other cases; in this case, _en_abling the UAC gives you more control !? :laugh: Of course, nothing about any of the error messages even hint that you need to _de_crease your priv's to fix the problem. No, but I guess that's why Vista ships with a web browser, so you can search Google with the text of your error messages. That's totally awesome! Thanks Vista!

Wasn't the main aim of UAC to force developers to work with low privileges, so that Vista 2.0 could bend it into something more useful, and thus having applications ready for Vista 2.0? Mission accomplished! :-D Yeah, I try to see positive sides everywhere... ;P

Did you try instaling drivers as admin, or not? In my short experience with Vista, and UAC bein _dis_abled, most things work if I run programs under an administrative account, and where possible click "Run as Administrator" or similar.

I'm about ready to pull my hair out here with Vista. I've about Googled myself to death trying to adapt to it but nothing is at it appears.
I jut paid the money to get "Ultimate" :mad: and loaded Virtual PC so that I could load OS's I could actually get some work done with. I just consider Vista a part of the boot process now.... I keep telling myself that it will get useful at some point.... won't it? Al

XP has an administrator account, even though you can't see it from the Switch User screen. Maybe Vista has this also. (also, the administrator account is useful during boot to console)

This is standard for our corporation. We don't want anyone messing up printer drivers, or calling us complaining their printer won't work properly when they installed it wrong.
He was a snowflake, like other "unique" snowflakes, falling down, getting stepped on, and pushed aside to disappear.

In vista, to get Admin rights without UAC, I believe you have to open control panel in admin (Make short-cut to control panel and mess with properties to make it always need admin). I'm not sure how this will work because I actually prefer UAC as I have gotten use to it and it doesn't popup every minute like Vista is being smashed about. Vista is aimed at home users that really don't need to change the computer daily!
