If the long dir is too hard to memorize, you can go Bookmarks->Organize bookmarks in FF, then in the organizer, click File->Export

I don't need to memorise it, I want to access it in an application I will write. I use bookmarks extensively, and the FF Bookmark Manager is, well, an under-performer. I'm going to venture into the murky waters of Javascript and Mozilla making myself a Power Bookmark Manager.

I looked under the menu and all I could see was a browser window and a bit of a toolbar.

Not sure if this will help you, but I recall del.icio.us* had a feature to import bookmarks from the browser directly. Never used it myself.... * Names like that sound cute, but they are a pain to type. :|

                Cheers, Vikram.

I'm sorry but it isn't there. It's in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\3wu2b6hv.default. I have no idea what the meaning of '3wu2b6hv' is.

Yes you're right, sorry about that. The string "3wu2b6hv" is generated for each user (or each profile?). I have 5i9pv8fs.default and ncccc5rz.default.
