Orcas Express Editions

I suspect if it happens, it won't happen before Orcas ships. Orcas is in beta, there's no need to beta cut down versions.

Wow! I hope the final EE is released free of cost, just like they did with VS 2005. :) My employer is sticking with 2003 for the foreseeable future, and I can't afford to purchase VS just to learn. I don't even have a computer. :sigh: That's where the 2005 EEs were a boon to me. :rose:
Cheers, Vikram.

Check the installation requirements. Last time I looked it said you need a computer.

 But I can install it on my employer's.
Cheers, Vikram.

There are product teams associated VS Express, so I don't forsee them going away anytime soon. (And as it was pointed out there is a Beta 1 version of C++, C#, VB, and VWD Orcas out).

They probably will be, I see them as enticing people into buying VS. While Orcas is in beta you could download and & use the full version of VS (albeit in beta). Also, I'd suggest caution when installing any kind of beta software onto your machine at work - you don't wanna get in trouble if the beta breaks something important/makes you less productive/etc. (but you knew that already - just being a responsible poster :)).

It's simply too huge, mate. This is India, what do you think connection speeds are? My home connection maxes out at 15kbps. :sigh:

I did install VS05 beta at work in mid 2005. While it didn't screw up my machine, it was slow as molasses to use, and was simply too buggy. Copy-paste sample code and compile, you'd get errors. Delete it, paste it again, and compile it; and it would work. I threw it out *really* fast and have never installed a beta after that.
Cheers, Vikram.
