Does anyone has opinions on this book[^]? Recently I've had some "rust" problems with a couple of patterns (very simple, indeed), so I think a book on the topic is a nice thing to have, also as a handy reference. Moreover, with the current $/€ exchange rate, it's very cheap. It costs me about an half than any retail price I can find here in Italy. Thanks for any advice. :)

If you've read a Head First book, you know what to expect--a visually rich format designed for the way your brain works. Using the latest research in neurobiology, cognitive science, and learning theory, Head First Design Patterns will load patterns into your brain in a way that sticks. In a way that lets you put them to work immediately. In a way that makes you better at solving software design problems, and better at speaking the language of patterns with others on your team. Sounds to me like they are trying to make their readers feel better about buying books with short sentences and big color pictures :-) Personally, I can't remember all the GoF patterns, and if I wanted to, I'd do my own cheat sheet/summary.

I got irritated with the format about half way through the book.

I have actually bought numerous titles in the series when I was working in Java. I find that they are not theoretically heavy, but provide a great foundation for reading the thicker theoretical books. I really enjoy the pictures and short sentences structure as they make you actually understand the application of the patterns displayed. I keep a copy of this on my work book shelf as it is a great book to flip to as a refresher. My 2Cents.

I think, this book is great. I had a lot of fun reading it. You have to like this style of writing. A lot of (black/white) pictures. Different fonts.

as others have said, it is a matter of taste. I too found the format interesting at first, but it got irritating rapidly. I was going to pass you on a great site, Huston design patterns, but it doesn't seem to be responding today so here is the google cache: Huston Design Patterns[^]

The fact is that I find very annoying reading on the screen, this is the reason why I still buy technical books.

I really liked this book, and i've recommended it to several other people. It's really aimed more at learning the patterns than as a refresher/reference though, but if you've not covered these too extensively before, then it really gets you understanding.

Best book ever :D No really, I just loved this book, we used it in school and it is the only book I still use from time to time. Recommended it to a lot of friends and use it most of the time to explain the patterns.
