    I feel my unix geekitude has crept up exponentially today. Not only did I build the thing from scratch, built/installed Bind, and then set up all the named config files and zone files, but it actually works! Even reverse lookup. I'm so psyched I would pinch my own ass if I could, however I'm afraid of the looks I might get from the people directly opposite my window.

        It's been a long day, and I'm sick of editing zone files in vi :)

              Congrats! As for pinching your own butt thing, it would probably scare off enough people so you can get more work done.

                  Ahhh. When I last configured bind I ended up cussing and pulling my hair out figuring why vs_pdc.somedomain.net would not lookup. After a few hours doing this I found the answer via a Google search. I had to add the following line to my zone configuration:

                  check-names ignore;

                  John

                    Hey! I just did that last week, only under Windows 2003. It took me a while to get it to pass all the dnsreport.com tests. It was extra tricky because I'm using my server as the primary and the dns servers for my unmanaged host as the second and tertiary. Did you add SPF records and DomainKeys as well?

                    "110%" - it's the new 70%

                      No, our configuration is pretty simple, a few zone files for some specific names, some reverse lookup, and then everything else is passed on to the "real" dns boxes. Also it's on a linux box, I don't know if that makes it simpler or more complex than windows.

                          Oddly enough I think windows is probably harder because you have to use a goofy interface that is really complex just to make a text file that you could type in in 2 seconds.
