VMWare: Workstation vs Server
-
Im currently using the Beta of VMWare Workstation 6. But the beta license key will be void at teh end of May(at least as I can see), and then I wont have access to my VM's. And I need them. badly.*ahem* Anyway, so I was browsing VMWare website, and stumbled upon the free VMWare Server. Would anyone who possesses the knowledge care to explain what Server lacks that Workstation has, and/or the other way around? Thanks.

AFAIK, the server edition is a "freeware" that allows running multiple PC configurations on a single physical server, but lacks some of the advanced features of the workstation version. From what I've come to know, the most prominent feature it lacks is the ability to take and restore snapshots. Maybe you should take a look at this[^]

thanks. I somehow missed the "whats the difference between server and workstation" part.

You may also use the free vmware player (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/). It allows you to run existing VMware machine, but not create new ones.

It's only 189 bucks, if it's important to you that's not a huge price to pay.
"110%" - it's the new 70%
Naturally, I'd love to go for the cheaper alternative, but if not possible, buying it will be the way to go.

I've found freeware tool for editing virtual machines for VMVare ( VMX Builder - http://petruska.stardock.net/Software/VMware.html ), so with freeware VMVare player it gives functionality similar to VMWare Workstation. But I don't know what WMVare thinks about it.
