I've been asked to spec out a new laptop for a development machine. This my idea, anyone have other ideas or input? 2+ Ghz dual core 64bit 2 GB RAM 100 GB hard drive DVD Drive Dual monitor capable Wireless 54g or n Bluetooth The plan is for this mechine to ready to develop anything from a simple website to enterprise ready data crunching apps.

    I'd add the following:

    • 4M cache (vs. 2M)
    • 7200 rpm drive (size matters much less than speed)

    /ravi

My laptop is just like that - one thing I didn't get that I wish I had was gigabit ethernet. So you might want to add that to your list. Also, regarding dual monitor support, if you have a spare machine you are not using, even a really old one, you could use Maxivista. I have used it and it works great on a 100 MB LAN. http://www.maxivista.com/[^] David
