Flaming Cocktails [modified]

I was reading an article in wikipedia about cocktails[^] and I came across Flaming Cocktails. About a week back my knowledge of alcoholic drinks was zero (never drank before in my life). Then I got interested in cooking with alcohol and bought alcohol for the first time in my life on Friday. But this whole concept of Flaming Cocktails sound nice and I am getting tempted to prepare one. Does anyone has any tips on how to prepare one? What kind of alcohol to use and safety precautions (apart from the obvious ones)? -- modified at 13:02 Wednesday 9th May, 2007

it is generally recommended that they be different, but not required. The outcome is, generally speaking, less pleasant if they are combined though.

Yes, if you hesitate don't proceed. My cousin had a nice ring on his forehead for weeks after he burnt it with a flaming shooter he hesitated on. I burnt the palm of my hand doing the same once. Either do it quickly or not at all. Otherwise, enjoy! It's great fun walking around a pub with a shot glass full of sambuca stuck to your forehead...

That sounds adventurous. All I need to do is to buy Sambuca. I hope it is available in the US.

Jeez, you bunch of old women make flaming cocktails sound way more dangerous than they are. I've only burn my hand from them, not lost my tonsils or had a nail through an eyeball.

Yeah, it's the people that don't realize that their drinks are on fire that get burned badly. My cousin did that and ended up with burns on his face and down his throat.

Ahah, Its really nothing special. Anyway I'd recommend a B-52, get: - a small spoon - a shooter glass - Baileys - Tijuana (Coffee liquor) - Absint - a straw - a lighter Fill up 1/3 of the glass with baileys, then, grab the spoon, putting it inside the glass concavity down and the tip touching the glass wall a bit above the baileys, and gently put the tijuana ontop of the spoon so it flows slowly through the glass wall, to create a second layer till 2/3 of the glass. Repeat last procedure with the absint till the glass is completely filled. Now, light it up, may take a while and the flame is blue, so you'll see it only in darker rooms, grab the straw and plunge it into the glass while frenetically sucking, or the strw will melt. Have fun :laugh:
