The pieces won't be equal though. The bottom of a cake is flat, the top bulges in the center (unless it falls but in that case it's ruined). The 4 pieces from the top will have the bulge the 4 from the bottom will be flat on both sides.

-- You have to explain to them [VB coders] what you mean by "typed". their first response is likely to be something like, "Of course my code is typed. Do you think i magically project it onto the screen with the power of my mind?" --- John Simmons / outlaw programmer

    I don't think he's specified that. I am assuming it's a flat surfaced cake.

1- A hobo who does like to smoke cigars but does not have any money, collects cigars stumps. From every six stumps he finds he can make a new cigar. One a particular day he finds 36 stumps. How many cigars can he smoke on that day? ---------- 2- What the number of characters the right answer of this question have [in English] ? ---------- 3- How is the minimum cuts with a knife a particular circular cake can be cut with into eight equal pieces ? ---------- 4- To protect his country a king decided to build a wall made out of stone along the border. The wall had to be 3 meters thick and 5 meters high. The border of the country has a length of 500 kilometers. Assuming that one cubic meter of stone weights about 3000 kg, how much heavier becomes the earth by building this wall? Very easy, I know :-D have fun. -- modified at 10:47 Thursday 10th May, 2007 -- modified at 10:52 Thursday 10th May, 2007

1- 7, as the first cigs will make another 6 stumps to make another. 2- Four, is the only number that it's characters equals it's value. 3- 3 ,as Nish first got it. 4- As the rocks will surly come from earth, nothing will change.

6 cigars. 0 - if you missed a "not" as in "who does not like to smoke"

          Assuming it's "right", then 5.

          3. First cut into two halves, then cut into 4 quarters, then cut side-wise into 8 pieces.

Will do this later if no one else has yet :-)

If not, you could always line them up after the second cut: ---- <}<}<}<} --- cut along this line

OK, that right, there are exactly 3 solutions to this, I said the minimum, and the minimum is three.:)

With the answer I can translate the question into normal english. "How many characters does the answer of this question have?". The original appears to be the victim of poor translation by a nonnative speaker.

Wouldn't this be 6 because he doesn't smoke and therefore doesn't have the stumps from the first six.

reread the question. He likes to smoke cigars, what he doesn't have is money to buy them.

Think the cake in 3D where you cut through the X,Y and Z planes. 4 people get the bottom pieces with no sugar/chocolate cover.
