Guitar Heros
-
I've been playing this game a lot lately. It has sure made me a lot more aware about guitars in music. I now often listen to just the guitar in a song rather than the song as a whole. I think the final track on Guitar Hero II is a really awesome masterpiece in the art of shredding: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird. Whenever I hear it, I get magically swooped away in the guitar solos. Purple Haze almost. ;P Do you know of a song with an awesome guitar solo that makes you all tingly inside? (Did I just say tingly inside? :~)

On Steven Still's first solo album he's got a track called something like "Back Home". Eric Clapton has the second solo on this track. I could listen to this solo repeatedly for days. I also like Martin Barre's solo on Aqualung, Clapton on George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and to be honest, there are a number of other solos that I really love.

Electric Crown - Testament Alex Skolnick went on to play jazz fusion and his ability to shred while play respect to the songs melody makes this my #1 solo of all time.
Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++ Metal Musings - Rex and my new metal blog "I am working on a project that will convert a FORTRAN code to corresponding C++ code.I am not aware of FORTRAN syntax" ( spotted in the C++/CLI forum )

I think I'll have to acquire a better recording of that song. It's a bit long, but definitely something I'd listen to at home, at work or in the car. Frank Zappa is a loonie BTW. :-D

Yes, Clapton is a very able guitar player. I love the stuff from Cream (his old band).

Good choice - although I would also plump for "On the turning away".

Smashing Pumpkins - I Am One Queen - We Will Rock You . just listen to the very first few notes - it's the best sound ever. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood Clapton - Crossroads Jimi Hendrix - Electric Church Red House, Hear My Train A Comin' (electric), etc. Steely Dan - Don't Take Me Alive, Peg Van Halen - You Really Got Me Adrian Belew - Twang Bar King Reverend Horton Heat - Psychobilly Freakout Junior Brown - Stupid Blues Gillian Welch - Red Clay Halo (live) actually, nearly anything from Jimi, Junior, Stevie, Billy (Pumpkins), David (Gillian Welch) or Eddie VH is bound to be great.

One of my all-time favorite albums is Disraeli Gears (first rock album I even bought). Great guitar-work in that album. Not to mention the incredible playing of Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. I was listening to Disraeli Gears this morning in the car on the way to work.

Actually there's no Shredding in Free Bird, just a very well done solo on basic blus pentatonic scale. so here's my list: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Tirerobe, cound't stand the weather etc etc Clapton - Crossroads, White room etc etc Jimi Hendrix - Woodoo Chile, purle haze, Foxey lady (live version) etc etc Van Halen - Mean Streets, Eruption Jeff Healey Band - See The Light (full album) - cover To Cover (full album) Gary Moore - Walking by Mysef, Still got the blues Santana - Europa, Oje como vĂ , black magic woman etc etc Led Zeppelin - Heart Breaker Mark Knopfler - Sultans of Swing, tunnel of love Guns And Roses - sweet child of mine Eagles - Hotel California (you can laugh but I still think it's a remarcable solo) I don't know mutch 'bout "Guitar Heroes" (but I've been playing guitar for the last 20 years) and I supposed it's more focused on Solos rather than all around playing..so no AC/DC (a pitty)
