That's funny.. what is that supposed to mean? Jewish people are forbidden to enjoy looking anything from another religion? Or rather in this case a movie? Have you seen the Buddy Jesus? Quite the strapping lad. Its all in the grin and the thumb.

    This statement was never false.

Perhaps you were originally looking for: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”

I'm pretty sure I would not like to live in a world in which I would never be offended. I am absolutely certain I don't want to live in a world in which you would never be offended. Dave

Doesn't mean I can't enjoy stuff that pokes fun at other religions also.

Oh, so you're an anti-Christian bigot? Do you think it would be OK if I got a little swastika bumper sticker?

I was trying to remember some bible quotes from jesus where he said something to the effect that he is not concerned with the political concerns of mankind but rather the spiritual concerns, so I did a Google search for "Jesus on Politics". This is one of the results: Comparsion shop for Jesus And Politics at BizRate. Compare stores & find low prices on Books & Magazines. Read product reviews before buying a Jesus

Yes. It's supposed to make fun of Christianity and Christians. Coming from a couple of leftists who espouse tolerance, I'm shocked...SHOCKED that you would mock Christianity like that.

 That's good. I AM Christian. My great grandfather was a Lutheran minister, died at about 98 years old. I always took that film to focus more on how we distort Christianity (or more specifically how the Catholic Church does) rather than an attack on Christianity itself. And I also like some of the other messages it did include like having good ideas instead of just believing. So we don't get too rigid, which is something Jesus preached to the Sanhedrin. That they're religion was too static. And this I think brings up another point. You seek and you find. If you expect to see an attack you will. If you look deeper you can find other things.

Tell ya what.Jesus wouldn't have had a problem with a statue portraying him as a smiling, good natured guy. He'd probably want to be remember as a being who brought joy and hope to the world.

Sounds like you've never seen the movie. It's actually making fun of the way religion is marketed these days. Not mocking Christianity, but those who treat it as a business.

I am aware that it was Roman law. I was commenting on the fact that, as pointed out by your good self, Jesus is not recorded as saying anything about it.

A glimpse of Christian morality is seen when one recalls that a repentant thief was promised Paradise by the very God who condescended to suffer the same pains Himself in the place of others; while an unrepentant thief, who sided with his fellow men against that God, was left with the sentence imposed by his fellow men. Which part of this sucks?

All of it: 1. The primitive notion that it is appropriate to torture someone to death in place of another and that a God temporarily "killing" his own son was necessary in order for that same God to be able to not punish third parties. 2. The fact that crucifixion existed as a penalty for anything, let alone theft (and the repentant thief doesn't appear to have been spared it, by the way). 3. The arbitrariness of giving issues of belief (eternal) consequences out of all proportion to their moral content.

Honestly I don't find Christian morality itself as it has developed, all that bad. It's what people do with it that bugs me. I understand the need to believe in a system that provides some sense of stability and in a way, absolute certainty.. but it is too easy to then use that as a basis for division and hatred. It's a constant battle in our society between those who would choose moderation and those who would choose fundamentalism. I'm not speaking of you or anyone else, specifically; merely a general observation.

                              Cheers,
