I am researching the best motherboard to use for my next build. I'm thinking I might use an Intel board. I want to use the best motherboard I can afford, I don't want to spend over 200 dollars though. Would you recommend Intel motherboards? If so why, or why wouldn't you?

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're interested in overclocking your CPU, Intel motherboards typically provide minimal options. Other venders (like Gigabyte/Abit/MSI) also produce good boards which have better tuning controls -- ie: independent voltage controls for memory, CPU, PCIe, clock ratios adjustments, etc... Pick your CPU, list the things you want the motherboard to have (I/O ports, PCI slots, PCIe slots, overclocking features, etc...) go browsing. Afterwards pick a RAM vendor & make sure they're compatible with your motherboard. There are many good choices in the $100 to $200 range. Personally I grabbed a GA-965P-S3. It's midrange, trivial to overclock my E6600 to 3.2Ghz, cost around $110. -- Ian

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121052[^] That motherboard looks pretty good. I want a motherboard that is well equipped. I would like it to have the ICH8-r southbridge chipset and the 965 northbridge or higher. I like this one because of its abundance of USB ports and firewire and the many other features that make it a great board for the money.

I've always gone with ASUS. Can't say why, but my home builts *always* ran significantly faster than store bought POS computers. :)

I'm finding the only constant in software development is change it self.

              I have that board (DG965WH[^]) with a Core 2 Duo E6600, and I think it's a very good buy. A gamer/overclocker would probably disagree :)

What do you mean Intel motherboards? Made by Intel or any one that has intel chipset? If it's the latter, I would suggest buying intel chipset motherboard as opposed to via or nvidia simply for better hardware compability. If it's the former, it depends. Intel made motherboards are usually quality boards, however except for very few of them Intel does not allow overclocking (for obvious reasons). One of the few exceptions is Bad Axe 2 motherboard which is pushing price tag to $200. btw CSS, just stop asking and buy the computer already...

Boards made by Intel. Not just the chipset.

I will look into that :) I am an overclocker but I will sacrifice the ability to over for a good rock solid board. However if Intel's Bad Axe is build to high standards then I will spend the extra money so I can overclock.
