I was working on an enhancement, yesterday my PL asked me to report the status on that. So I sent a mail to him with the analysis. Today he forwarded a mail from the client appreciating the work done. I saw in the mail that my name is no where to be seen. He has replaced my name with his name and sent my mail to the client. This has happened before too with another issue that I had worked on. I’m so mad at him but I really don’t know how to handle this, if I report him to my manager, it would spoil the working relation between us. And I don’t want to take it just sitting anymore. Please suggest how to handle this situation. -- modified at 5:38 Friday 18th May, 2007 Thank you all for putting things into perspective. Now I'll stop dramatizing the situation and get back to work :-O But what irked me most was that he could have forwarded my mail instead of replacing my name ... anyways as you guys pointed out no big deal

Might be his English written skills are not good as yours ....... Don't worry PM and Compnay Knows The Success of the Project depends on Whole team not a team leader. His work is coordination,......... etc

Thanks and Regards Sandeep If If you look at what you do not have in life, you don't have anything, If you look at what you have in life, you have everything... "

Did your Client know you all, who are all were working for him. He knows from this company, under the Team of your PL only. So your PL has send the mail to the Client and he has forwarded the appreciated mail to all of you. There is Nothing Wrong in it. Don't worry you will be rewarded within the company. If you are working on the Client's Place then the client will know you. By that time depending upon your work, you can get all the Appreciation directly from the Client. So Nothing Wrong in this. And be cool and carry on your work.

      Regards, Satips.

well, i think he had no bad intention while replacing your name with his name in the mail to his client. He might have done that because he is the one who has to deal with the client. He is the one who is representing your team.if he had any bad intention, then he would have never forwarded you the appriciation mail sent to him by the client. By forwarding the client's mail to you, your PL's has shown his appreciation towards your work. Never mind about these kind of incidents. Instead concentrate on your work so that you produce more of such appreciable results . :)

Well, answer to this swathi. what would you have done if the client was not impressed with your work and instead of sending an appreciation mail to your PL, had he sent a mail slamming your team for the kind of work your team (or your PL)has done. would you still be annoyed with your PL for replacing your name with his name?

If he got the Blamming Mail,he will not Forward it to you all guys in the team. Instead, he will Scold all the guys of your team ,that your performance is not good and it is not satisfying the Client. So by that time he will Scold you guys only. By that time also he will not take responsiblity.

yes, I think he would have certainly forwarded the mail to you. Because, the purpose of forwarding the mail to you is to make you know how you are doing with your work. Its a kind of feedback from your PL. My advice, if the feedback is postive, be proud of your work and try to get similar or even better results. If the feedback is negative, No need to worry. Just try to change the things by doing better. :)

If he got the Blamming Mail,he will not Forward it to you all guys in the team. Instead, he will Scold all the guys of your team ,that your performance is not good and it is not satisfying the Client. So by that time he will Scold you guys only. By that time also he will not take responsiblity.

                                    Regards, Satips.

This bot speaks a lot. Is there anyway to block it??? Look satips, you are misleading swathi. If you can't give a good advice, then you better not give any.

Well.... Actually there are some reasons for this. And at least one is a pretty good one. Where I work, because most of our customers are long-standing and have flown out to meet us, they know who I am. When a bug comes up, or they want a new feature, they contact me directly, as the most experienced programmer on the team. This actually should not happen. The project lead should be the customer interface, so the developers can "do the work." This leads to more productivity, as well as the Project lead gets to decide what to pass on to the time and how, and when, especially if deadlines loom. I have to remind our customers to check with our project leader, I got a call yesterday asking about a specific feature to our software. Because his system is flight certified it goes through a different build, so he doesn't have that particular feature, and all the other customers do. He now needs it. I asked him to contact our PL right away so that he can make these arrangements. Due to the nature of that customer's software, I cannot simply add it. It must go through an approval for the change which has to be started ASAP. Contacting the developers sounds good, but it interrupts work, and bypasses proper change requests. All in all, you don't know why the name was replaced. It easily could be so that he can take credit for your work, or it could be that he is protecting the development team from interfacing with the customer. Just from the one example you don't know why.

yes, I think he would have certainly forwarded the mail to you. :)

I am not sure if Xiangyang Liu was talking about swathi's PL.

There is an advantage for not being specific, isn't it? :)
