Only in the sense that I thought it was going to be another C# vs. VB question! But to answer your question: a book. No explanation needed. ;P Marc

Without having played either I can tell you that Playstations have generally been sports/war game based where Xbox has had a huge place for the fantasy games and first person shooters (non war versions).

Well the NPD Funworld game sales figures say that the GBA (yep thats the gameboy advance ... not even the DS!) is outselling the PS3. The PS3 has it's blueray player going for it but if you just want a games console I'd go for the 360. The PS3 currently has very few exclusive games and a horrific price tag on it.

Well, many games are released for both consoles, usually with one console being the "early" target and one console being the "late" target (Development takes place on one environment, with the other one being the target of a "conversion"). This is never true for some specific series, such as "Halo" (XBox), "Final Fantasy" (PS), Mario (Nintendo), Sonic (SEGA) - R.I.P., etc. These series are topsellers and showcase-apps and are usually developed in close cooperation with the console manufacturer, if not by the manufacturer themselves. I, personally, would buy a Wii, and if only to be able to use it "with" my DS games sometime in the future - just like the Gameboy and N64 could share saves etc.

what is your criteria for 'better'? Given this is a personal qualification. Price? Performance? Choice in games? New Technology for the sake of technology? Bigger bragging rights against the Jones'? Both are different machines. Some ways the 360 is better, some the PS3. When you qualify what your meaning of 'better' is, only then can it truly go one way or another.

Because it is the only games console I've ever bought, therefore it must be better. :-D

That is all true but if you look at the game availability of each console they have themes they tend to follow in their core lineups.

But is that Sony Book v 3.2 or MS Book v2.6? If you hang around for a little while, Steve Jobs will introduce iBook which will require you to learn to read in a proprietary language that the fashionistas will declare is "cool".

PS3. It has the Blue Ray player, is wireless and compatible with Playstation 1 and 2 games. I heard that Xbox is going to be offering an external Blue Ray drive. You can now download PS2 games online for $5 a piece. You can also try out PS3 games before committing to buying them.

That depends where you live - the current Japanese and American PS3s do hardware emulation of PS2 games - European ones have limited software emulation (which will be rolled out on new American PS3s too, to save costs)

I concur, although games for the PS3 have been coming out too slowly and with mixed reviews. Still, as an MP3 player, photo player, DVD player, Blu-ray player, and HD game player, it shines.

Yep, I downloaded a demo of Ninja Gaiden Sigma the other night. It features a complete level of the game and really gives you a feel for what a great game it's going to be.

None. Go out walking a bit, read books, go to the theater, stop loosing your time with video games.

But the 360 can play mp3's, show pictures, play dvd's and has HD games. Not only that but it has lots of intergration with Media Centre PC's if you have one and will happily connect to WMP 11 if thats on a PC on your network. It'll also happily connect to any USB devices you plug in such as external hard drives. Yeah the saxis controller on the PS3 has wirless (just like the Xbox 360) but it's missing the rumble capability, the one advantage the PS3 does have is tilt capability. Also the 360 has a demos section on Xbox Live. So the only features you've mentioned here that stands out is the Blue Ray player part, which is a good reason to buy a PS3 if you want a BR player.

Which is better, and why: The PS3 or the Xbox 360? PS: I apologise if this topic sound familiar...
