Can someone explain to me why people feel the need to slow down to look at accidents on the other side of the freakin highway? :mad: I live/work in Portland Maine. Every couple of weeks I have to be in corp. HQ, which is in Southern Mass. - approx 130 miles each way. I leave fairly early so it usually takes around 2 hrs. This morning it was almost 4 1/2hrs. Ran into a 20+ mile backup going south, the cause of which ended up being an accident on the NORTH BOUND SIDE of the highway. It was pretty much cleared by the time I got to it, but it looked like a simple 2 car non fatal/minimal damage rear ending type of thing. Beyond that, the road was completely clear. great way to start the day, ugh.

Monday this week it took me 1 hour and 10 mins sitting in traffic on one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country to get to work. I so need a canoe it doesn't bear thinking about. :wtf: If there are any other CPians in the Nottingham UK area who happen to have canoe they don't have room for, don't be shy, I'm desparate and I might do almost anything ;P
Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

Yeah you're right. Thought about that after I posted, just needed to vent. Best part was I finished my coffee (about 3 cups) before I hit the backup...then got to sit for another 3 hrs. Let's just say it was close:-O

I live less than 2 miles from where I work, but it happens to be the other side of a major river with very few bridges. Monday this week it took me 1 hour and 10 mins sitting in traffic on one of the busiest and most dangerous roads in the country to get to work. I so need a canoe it doesn't bear thinking about. :wtf: If there are any other CPians in the Nottingham UK area who happen to have canoe they don't have room for, don't be shy, I'm desparate and I might do almost anything ;P

That's absolutely insane! Why not just walk? Probably faster. I live two miles from work and takes 5 minutes. Seven if I hit the red lights.

Well, at least they'll keep their eyes on the road and their hands upon the wheel... Oh wait, that was the Doors, not the Stones. Either way, we're goin' to the roadhouse. We're gonna have a real good time. And to think... Today I skipped the morning dose of caffeine...

You're assuming the accident started in the northbound lane. It could have started in the southbound (your) lane, and caused a reaction in the northbound lane (which re-affected the southbound lane). ;)

I can do a lot of cool stuff, including some things with macros you would not believe, but I can't walk on water. That's why I need a canoe, the road and the only footpath, which is a swamp even in the summer and blocked for bikes, go miles down the river to the next bridge. I'd have to walk more or less the same way I drive and it would take ~1 hour. I love where I live and I love where I work but commuting is, as you say 'insane'. Still I used to cycle into London in the rush hour from outside the M25 so who am I to talk about sanity :omg:

Hey, at least the traffic slowed for a reason. There's a spot on the freeway on my way to work where everything comes to a halt for no reason most days. Unfortunately, every now and then, this results in a multi-car accident (almost had one myself this morning--first time in ages I've locked up my brakes. I'm just glad the van in back of me had good brakes as well.)
