I've modified a couple of my posts because of this. I think they mostly come from the people that don't like the author.

I agree with you. The voting system is used to rate the author, not the post. That is why some platnuim member can get voted like 2 fives just for posting "me too" or something.

What do you think about 1.0 votations without replies? Personally I hate who makes those things. If you don't like a message or a answer then vote 1.0 and reply to make the author know the reason of such a bad scoring (if you give good vote, probably he is able to figure out the reason...:). I know I'll get a lot of silently 1.0 for this post, but I'm not scared about...:-D

If he's trolling, I just vote 1.0 to get the message below deletion threshold.

I think that "vote" is both a verb and a noun. There is no need to add a "(a)tion" ending to something that is already a noun.

I think so too. I am surprised at how people expect 1 votes to be justified by a comment, but don't mind people voting 5s (whether on articles or on posts).

OK grammar teacher: I have to admit my English is bad (Maybe being Scottish you've a little advantage on me). Anyway this definitely is NOT the point of my posting. :)

I'm surprised at your surprise  (you're a clever guy :-D). If people votes 5 your message or article there is a high probability that you already know why. On the other hand if someone votes 1 then, perhaps, you've made a mistake or missed something and hence, you may appreciate the explaining comment. I think it is not a difficult concept. :)
