Ok I took the plnuge today and bought a new laptop with Vista Ultimate installed. After talking to ex-colleagues and respected peers, all say this is not really a good decision, as most claim it is the worst operating systems since WIn98/Millenium Edition. I know this question has been asked a thousand times on here, but just thought I would check with you guys. Should I wipe the hard drive and install XP and wait another year before trying Vista again, or should I persevere. Bearing in mind I spend most of time going from Client site to client site, connecting up and coding. Have a let myself in for a life of misery? With an operating system that just isn't worth it?
Kind Regards, Gary

If drivers for XP are still available, you can try doing a dual boot or virtual machine installation, otherwise you are in for a life of misery:~ Roswell

I reckon give it a week or two and then decide for yourself. Everyone's situation is different & using Vista Ultimate may just work for you. If it doesn't, wipe & install XP. This way you'll have learnt from experience which is always worth that much more (in my opinion anyway).

City Mayor, Los Angeles, CAI've been running vista ultimate on my notebook (turion x2 with 2GB ram) with no issues. One thing I did was to tweak some of the settings to improve performance, which is no different than I did with XP. I've considered wiping and going XP from the beginning but decided to give Vista a shot. I use the system quite heavily for software development using Visual Studio 2005 and I can honestly say that I would prefer developing on Vista over XP simply because it responds and there is a lot less delays. My work system which is a intel hyperthreader with 2GB takes FOREVER to load vs2k5. There is one feature that Vista has that I take advantage of that XP doesn't offer, Speedboost. Kind of a beech at boot time but advantageous nontheless.
