What do you use to keep track of your ideas, flow, and design?
-
Do you use a white board, pencil and paper, software, or try and keep up with it mentally? Me personally, since I have to share my p.c. with another employee on some days I use the time tested pencil and paper technique (though things get moved around and I end up losing my legal pad) and I also try to keep a back up in my head just in case the paper with everything ends up in a different location and I am unable to find it for a week.

Usually I draw everything on a white board and take the pictures with my blackberry. Then I send them to my working folder and attach the files to the project in subversion. Since all that is like the early analysis and graphs, I usually end up using those pictures to rewrite all the graphs and improve the design with Visio or StarUML. The design shown on these is usually the one that I will use to create/update the project at hand.

Visio, Google notes, FrontPage (I have several incomplete articles), to do lists (electronic), and notes on paper in front of my desk. And I still can't get my bills paid on time! Marc

For years I've used a spiral notebook but I am developing an app to keep track of notes, snippets, design sketches and the like. Like you I would write stuff down so I wouldn't forget it but then I would forget where I wrote it. I've lost a lot of phone numbers so hopefully this app will help. By the way theres a cute little blond named Cindy...If she asks for me get her number and email it to me..I'd be much abliged! Mike Young married couple..Blond wife..Husband comes home one day and his wife is staring at a carton of orange juice. Husbands asks...what are ya doing. Wife replies..duh, concentrate!

The bank will love you for this because they can charge more and more fees. I heard they call people who are paying bills on time "dead beats". :)

Cocktail napkins are great idea holders, but you have to remember to remove them from your pants pockets before doing laundry.

Well you know. You may lose your ideas that are on the napkins but if you wash enough of them you can pull out all the bits and make a brand new even bigger sheet of paper so you can put more ideas on (once it dries of course)
