Who would you walk across the USA with?

I think I'd walk with Josh Smith. Then again... two programmers walking down the street... eeeh.... not a fun sight. Not to mention we'd be arguing about really stupid things like bracing style for the whole trip. -- modified at 1:36 Tuesday 26th June, 2007

I think the fact that my old signature had a Chuck Norris line in it might have been one of the influences. Now that it's been removed, let's see if it starts to decline a bit. Either that, or CP is ahead of the times and has already brought the Chuck Norris humor back into swing. We've made it retro!

Suppose that you were forced, at gunpoint, to walk across the United States from coast to coast. In addition, you were also forced to walk with one of three people. If you and the other person were ever more than 10 or 15 feet apart from each other, you get tortured for a few hours by sadistic men with anger management issues. It comes time to pick your walking partner, based on their profile. Who would you pick to accompany you on this journey? Name: Todd Wilkinson Photo: Clickety[^] Background: Todd has been an accountant for the past 15 years and has no interest in life outside of his job. He daydreams about taxes. His wildest fantasies involve finding tax loopholes which save his clients a little extra money. He occasionally toys with the idea of suicide and frequently enters into states of rage and depression, which he expresses via passive aggressive remarks and hand gestures. He never, ever laughs. Name: Ivana Meanowitch Photo: Clickety[^] Background: Ivana is a self-righteous, arrogant, mean-hearted woman. Her bleak understanding of English leads to many false interpretations of what people say, and she is quick to resort to violence in such situations. When she is not insisting that her way of life is the only good way to live, she enjoys her lifelong devotion to celibacy. Ivana wears the same bizarre outfit every day and seeks confrontations with strangers about her sense of style whenever possible. Name: Unknown Photo: Clickety[^] Background: This man refuses to tell his name, but accidentally mentioned once that he is fleeing the police after escaping prison. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for being a serial rapist. He has a witty sense of humor, is kind to animals, helps little old ladies cross the street, is versed in poetry, can start a fire with two sticks on a wet day, and will go out of his way to bring a smile to your face every day...unless he decides that he "really" likes you.

Problem with that is, if you kill her then you'd have to carry/drag her the rest of the way. Remember the rule, if you are 10 or 15 feet apart from your walking partner (dead or alive) then you get tortured for a few hours by some nasty dudes. I'm not sure if killing her would help! :-D

I think you've been writing too much code Josh. Why don't you get outside for that walk, huh? -CB ;)

I wouldn't be carrying a derringer, said nasty dudes would also be suffering from fatal cases of high velocity lead poisoning.

I would have to pick the third option "unknown". Just because he happened to be convicted of being a serial rapist doesn't necessarily mean that he is truly guilty. Even if he was guilty, people can change. Aside from all that he sounds like the most fun guy to walk across the country with, no contest really.

Seems perfectly fine to me. I guess you also have a problem when searching for things it is always in the "last place you look." (usually because you stop looking after you find it) Lifelong obsession is correct per se, since as soon as the obsession is carried out, it culminated with the end of life. Therefore it was an obsession to the end of his life. Thus life-long. Life-shortening is perhaps right, though it assumes he won't be struck by a car if he had gone elsewhere and done something else, and therefore would have lived longer. This is an unknown. I am not here to glorify suicide, but it usually ends the life, or makes you permanently miserable if you miss (usually leaving you with worse scars and more misery than you had before).

I always thought the report of a near-miss should have been called a near-hit, as a near-miss is really a hit.

What are the requirements here? If I'm walking a long way I want someone who can carry some food. Is there going to be lions and tigers and bears? Todd has a gun which could come in handy. Will we need money? Or is this just about who I'd rather have a conversation with for 70 hours, cuz I'd take the serial killer every time on that, unless there were lions...

of course there is always the famous.... do you want to get "on" the plane? No... I would rather get "in" the plane, riding on the wings is not my favorite mode of travel. :)
