I know this has been posted a thousand times by different people, but I didn't need one at those times hence paid no attention. I want an editor that is reasonably light weight, runs on Vista and is capable of handling Unix text files. What recommendations do y'all have?

Notepad 2 is an excellent utility. It can handle Windows / Mac and Unix line endings.

I toggle between TextPad v4.4.0 and EditPlus v2.11. TextPad is great for "Find in File" searches, but I love EditPlus for most other things, because it's neat, configurable and particularly as it has an FTP client built in so you can edit files remotely and save back automatically. And I constantly do work with files from UNIX, both seem to work well.

SciTE[^], beauty is it doesn't need to be installed, all config files are in the same directory.  There is even a single executable version so you only need one file.

I third that - Notepad++ works well for me too.

I know this has been posted a thousand times by different people, but I didn't need one at those times hence paid no attention. I want an editor that is reasonably light weight, runs on Vista and is capable of handling Unix text files. What recommendations do y'all have?

                                        Editplus is the best IMO

So what about GVIm? I use that exclusively. It could be said that all the other editors mentioned here merely emulate subsets of GVIm while GVIm is no more heavyweight than them.
