Wow how bad of a geek am I, I finally topped 1TB of storage in my computer today when I added yet another 320GB HDD to my personal PC. Man I remember the days when getting a 1 GB HDD was a HUGE deal, when anything over 1GB was considered "super nerdy" and "unnecessary" (as in "no one will ever need that kind of HDD storage), how times have changed. Now I'm pretty sure my computer here at home has more power than the one they had at UGA when I was a student (and oddly enough it doesn't have to be housed in its own separate building due to the sheer size of it). I mean think about it, my computer at home has the Intel 2.66Ghz Dual Core Processor, 4GB DDR2 memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS and now over 1TB of internal storage and I'm still always looking for ways to make it better, does it ever end, will us geeks ever be happy with our computers?

Hell, I have data structures in my code now that are bigger than the first hard drive I bought (a 340 MB Western Digital 'Caviar').

And it's crying shame it will all be superceeded in 18 months, save your cash for your pension and not for your computer ;)

I remember when I bought 4 x 1MB ram sticks for $50 each, they were retailing at $100 each at the time... I thought I had hit the motherload!!

When I was doing my driving test, the instructor had me stop off at the local computer shop so he could buy 4MB RAM for $350! But thats not too bad, I had a receipt at my old job for a 20MB (not GB) hard drive for $3500! (AUD) Consider that recenty I bought a 500GB drive for $170 AUD that's 25000 times more storage for 1/20 the price!

              I have no blog...

Well I have over 75GB of MP3's, 11 clients websites I develop locally (most of of the Intranet beast) then deploy (so all the files are local), all the graphics work I do, then of course theres 16 years of my sons pictures (you'd be surprised how many you can amass in 16 years HAHAHAHA) and now I am going to be triple-booting (XP, Vista & PCLinuxOS) (The Vista boot is to test drive it and see if it's going to be worth it for me to switch or not). Don't be jealous man, I spend more on the computers here than I do my car (sad statement, it's the geek in me I tell ya) and what I make from my full-time job goes into the house (house payment, bills, food, essentials) and the money I make from my home company (developing custom software, websites, etc) is mine to spend on my toys :->

I have 1.4TB on my home network. What does that make me?? Admittedly I use two drives in a mirror configuration so I actually only have 850GB storage. Only! Hmm, but then my media player and camcorder have harddrives too .. Damn, in '93 I had a 220Mb drive and thought I was cool.

After a while they all bug me

cool, keep going and you may eventually catch up to my work machines. Seriously, you have a better machine at home than I do. Well, except you could use a few hundred gig more. Live disks 150gig boot Windows 75 gig boot Linux 200gig data photos 200gig data photos 500gig data R&D work/hobby/ideas USB disks: 300gig backup for home stuff 80gig photo, video, and misc (wolverine drive) 60gig audio and misc (iPod) 60gig misc 2.5 gig misc pocketable 1.0 gig documents stick on cord. (otherwise known as the geek necklace) this is not counting anything work purchased. Even though the 500 gig above is for work, it is not work's so I can do research into areas work has not entered into yet. :)
