Good. So that the UniVoter canstop his voting.

just check it with that sometimes there are users with differnt names. and there are dynamic IP Address is created when he disconnects the Internwt and re connect. So he can start voting now and then and also he will keep on voting after one minute. So this should be taken care.

On TS-UK we operate a default policy of keeping new members under moderation until they have a) posted more than 5 messages and b) been a posting member for at least a month. A similar policy in the Lounge could definitely work even here, as casual members rarely post anywhere other than the message boards associated with articles.

I like idea. The single problem is who would be the moderators? Does Chris have enough staff to cover the load or do we elect some volunteers for that status?

That is indeed the question. Platinum members could certainly have a say, which would spread the load a little.

Maybe a weekly vote on those who are abusing. If they are deemed as problems, misfits or just plain obnoxious they are given an increasing severity warning and 3 strikes and your out for a period of time (time-out) or or just outta here. Just a thought, Mike

Time for you (and a number of others) to sit back and take a deep breath. 1) I get the impression that there are one or two who may vote based not upon content, but upon personality conflicts with the poster (my days are indeed numbered!). 2) All an abuser need do is create a CP account with false info (oh my!) and they're off an running with either (1) a shield on their normal uid, or (2) a replacement for it. This is kind of an obvious tactic - used extensively on unmoderated newgroups. Particularly by those who'd posts most would least like to see. Much as I like, at times, to help in fouling the weather, isn't this just a tempest in a teapot? Hey - believe it or not, that little medal on your user info page? It's just a graphic. You can copy the Gold and Platinum ones and print as many copies as you need. Really - for any to which this really matters: they can look at the message post count & the article post count & make their own decisions. It shouldn't be that difficult for someone who's able to accomplish the stupendous feat of writing a real computer program! In what may emphasize the meaning of the expression about "the pot calling the kettle black", isn't all this concern (and calls for penalties and exiles) rather silly? Haven't you yet discovered that those reponses encourage the miscreants you fear? Ignore them - they really will go away. Apologies for using so many trite sayings. Somehow this seemed to be the thread for it.

Balboos, I personally don't let this situation bother me...I ignore it and I deal with each person individually on there own merit. As you can see my status here at CP is one of a lowly stature and was only suggesting one of many possible solutions to a situation thats seems to be gaining momentum. In other words I come here for the knowledge and the exchange thereof. If I don't deem it worth the time I will go elsewhere. But I find the people I meet here to be genuine and willing to share that knowledge and a joke or two occassionally so I will stay unless asked not to! Your point is well taken! Mike

I'm getting as tired as everyone else of the crap that is going on so I'm proposing the following changes: - I've increased the threshold for messages to disappear if marked as spam - Only silver and above members can mark messages as spam - Your IP address can only vote a limited number of times a minute and also a limited number of times a day - Once you hit 5,000 messages then your profile will simply say "over 5,000 messages" Two more thoughts: 1. I'm tempted to add a "Kick this person out of the lounge" button. It would only be accessible by Gold and above members. Just how abused would this be? 2. I will be replacing the Silver/Gold etc ranking with a ranking based on your participation as an author and as a poster. If you answer questions in the forums that are well received you increase your status; same with your posted articles. You post rubbish and you go down. The only problem with this is how we reward those members who are simply great to have around. The ones who have interesting stories, incitefulinsightful comments, are great moderators of the mood, and whose participation makes CodeProject what it is. Suggestions? -- modified at 10:20 Wednesday 18th July, 2007

Perhaps a rhetorical survey question will address this question with appropriate context: "Did You Joined The Code Project in Order to Get a Gold Medal?" Vote 1 if that was of no importance, 5 if it was the only thing of importance. I would be in favor of penalties for excessive (>= any?) use of smiley's

And - for those who just love a touch of irony. This thread is the place where I've posted my 100th message. And this is it. I just don't feel any different than I did before - although I haven't yet pressed the post-button, looked at my profile, and rejoiced as would Gollum when he bit the ONE from Frodo's hand.
