Hi all, I've just downloaded and installed Moz 1.0. First impressions are that it is aesthetically ugly. But I hear there are a number of themes you can download to make it look cool. I haven't put it through it's paces but I was wondering, what does it mean for one browser to be faster than another? Are we talking the time it takes for a ful wb page to load? Because if that's the case then IE is winning, well at least when browsing CNNSI.com on my PC. CP looks good in Moz, though no DHTML view. Tabbed views are nice. Nothing has leaped out at me yet that would make me ditch IE. Perhaps when I get into web development I might switch, but for now Moz looks like a good enough browser, same as IE. Comments please? Don't forget that IE starts quickly, because it's fully loaded during the Windows boot. If you want Moz to start that fast, enable the "quickstart" option, which does the same. Moz does support DHTML, (from what I understand, it's disabled on this site for Moz, since it didn't work properly). Any chance of re-testing it with Moz1.0? (Or just allowing anyone to select DHTML, and just let them deal with what happens if it doesn't work with their browser :-D ) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Not necessarily "fully", but big parts of it, yes.

I mean when you're searching for files you're using modules that are also used by IE etc. Don't know for sure though. On a side note, isn't it funny how Mozilla advocates (not saying you are one of course) always say that Mozilla would be as fast as IE if it also had the advantage of being a part of the OS? In other words, IE "cheats". But if that's the case, why is Opera faster than both IE and Netscape? Makes you think. Just another wannabe code junky

Mozilla has a 'hidden' reference to Ghostbusters. If you open the DOM Inspector and inspect any browser window, in Namespace URI you will find a reference to http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul. "Don't forget that IE starts quickly, because it's fully loaded during the Windows boot. If you want Moz to start that fast, enable the "quickstart" option, which does the same." This is largely a fallacy, propagated by people with no appreciation for the huge amount of performance work that goes into making apps such as IE and Office start quickly. It's not uncommon for those teams to spend thousands of man hours dedicated to pulling every trick in the book to delay load as much as possible and page in as little as possible. Talented developers work for weeks to shave off a half of a second. The Office team even wrote their own profiler and encourages all devs to work on perf. Microsoft also has some sophisticated tools from research to decrease app loading time. --CoolDev
