What a night....

Well we were once again up & at the bookstore at 12:01 AM for the new Harry Potter book (we've done this for the last 4 I believe) but this one was way more chaotic. There were times when I thought things might get violent as we waited, people were getting tired and "cranky" as they waited. The previous 3 releases we were able to sit in the car and wait for the doors to open, this was a different beast alight: We arrived at 10PM ( 2 hours before the official release) and there was already a line, some people had already been there for several hours (hell thats crazier than we are). We finally got our 2 books (we always buy 2, once for the "collection" and one for reading) and now have the entire collection. With all this it really seems tame compared to what was happening in other places, like this[^] one. Anyone else stay up for the release?

There was a line of people camped out overnight at the bookstore next to my daly Starbucks. Even a tent for the first people in line! No violence - everyone looked pretty tired :)

I got mine at lunch today, no lines, no fuss, and 40% off. I was out til about 11:30 last night at the "Greatest Harry Potter Party" ever event at Harvard Square (renamed to Hogwarts Square - how clever). It was pretty lame. If it was the greatest party ever, I'm glad I missed the previous ones.

I stayed up. I left my home at 23:55 and walked to the book shop. The first one I passed was waterstones (which I refuse to use) but they had queues out the door, up the street and across junctions! I walk a bit further to Borders books. They have a queue out the door too but I look in and I see that the queue stretches to the back of the store round the bookcases at the back and to the checkouts. So I waited there. The problem was that what I didn't see though the glass front of the building was that the queue went down the stairs into the basement, snaked round the basement then went all the way up to the 3rd floor snaked its way around that and finally came back to the ground floor. It took 90 minutes. I used to live in a small town where only one shop was selling HP at midnight (it was a 24hr supermarket) and so I got used to waiting only 20 minutes. I suppose now I've moved to Scotland's largest city I have to put up with longer queues.

I saw an awful lot in the shops today at half price. I'm sorry but this makes me wonder about people.

Amazon, Asda and others were advertising it at half the RRP for ages. WH Smith and Tesco were selling it for less if you bought other stuff too. Personally, I think that most of the time the RRP is set higher than it needs to be to make people think they are getting a bargain.

Briefly considered it, but then decided against it because I probably wouldn't have been able to stay up for much longer after 12 to read it anyway. So I just went next morning at 9am to FRYs and got the book for only $16 which is much cheaper than borders and without any crowds either.
