U.S. Available Store Bought Sauces...
-
So in asking this question to some of you (almighty cooks and eaters that you are) I almost feel like I'm stooping so low as to ask a PQ in the lounge. But I have to do this... I'm looking for some really good store bought (they have to be store bought because we really don't have time to make them ourselves) sauces for the following:
- Teriyaki style stir fry sauce for chinese style vegetables. (Not Spicy, but full flavored.)
- Spicy style sauce like you get with a "General's Chicken", "Spicy Beef" style dish.
- Some other kind of sauce, not sure how to describe it but it's almost always the same sauce for "Broccoli Beef" anywhere but especially at P.F. Changs.
- Really good fettuccine sauce. The best we have found is Bertolli and I'm guessing there is better out there.
- Jamaican Jerk Sauce. (No that's not an attack on any Jamaicans. It's really a sauce.)
Other sauces you might recommend that I can get off the shelf that are pretty good for the fact they are bottled. No MSG is mandatory. We like spicy too but not super spicy. We enjoy it more as a flavor and less as a source of heat where you nose runs, eyes burn and your heart starts saying, "OMG We're gonna die."

I think you can find most at Buffalo Wild Wings (you can order online). I love their teriyaki sauce and my husband loves the jerk sauce (I'm not a huge fan). They have a garlic parmesean sauce that I have used in lieu of alfredo or mixed them. The "hot" flavor reminds me of General Tso's sauce. Not sure about the MSG's though.

Teriyaki
Make it yourself it's easy, Dark Soy + Light Soy + (Rice Wine, Sake or Mirin) + (Sugar or Honey). I have a couple full of spices and sauces and other stuff which I buy from my Local Chinese and Asian supermarkets, in fact I shop there more than the conventional supermarket.

See the recipe I have (that you have to let sit for a bit once jarred) involves molasses, ginger root, cumin, etc... nothing at all like yours you describe. Plus you missed the specifications in my requirement. But since requirements analysis is iterative I'll allow you to make a second pass, tighten up your specification and try again.:-D

My girlfriend buys a partucular Pakistani brand of curry sauces because we really like them but also because she is alergic to MSG. Ill have a look in the cupboard tonight and find the band name if you like
*THAT* would be awesome.

This is a common misunderstanding about people who like the heat. Once you are accustomed to the temperature, you open up a whole new line of flavors that you previously couldn't taste because it was too hot. So now you can actually enjoy the flavor of habanero, which I find really good. :)

not mutually exclusive: even with your own label[^] and remember.... chili can cure a cough: Hot Herbal Cough Syrup [^] (or at the very least make you forget your illness when made with quality habanero powder -- especially if you increase the quantity ;) )

:sigh: Rex, Rex, Rex... tsk tsk. Everyone has time to make sauces, it's either 5 minutes at the start of cooking or simply ingredients that went into the dish during cooking or a quick finishing sauce at the end of cooking ususally involving the contents or their leftovers at the bottom of the pan / pot. Sauces made from fresh ingredients are a whole lot tastier and better for you and if they are taking more than 1% of the total cooking time of any cooked dish then your doing them wrong. The only sauces / liquid ingredients worth buying are the ones that are highly specialized and generally used as ingredients in other sauces, i.e. tabasco, chili garlic sauce, ketchup, soya sauce, apple cider vinegar, olive oil. Take 5 minutes a day to look up the dishes you are cooking and find the recipe that shows how to make them authentically and you'll be surprised how unnecessary a bottled sauce is. Just for example the Jamaican Jerk sauce is about 5 or 6 ingredients, probably the most complex one on your list, all the ingredients should be available at any grocery store, you can make it in about half an hour and it refrigerates almost indefinitely. If you don't enjoy the process of cooking and the flavours you get, why bother? Just put ketchup on everything and call it dinner. ;)

The only one I can help with is the teriyaki sauce. I tried this one the other week and it was pretty darn good: http://www.soyvay.com/estore/display.php?RecordID=1034272355[^]
