Hey guys, A developer left our team recently and now that I'm on his machine, I see that when the mouse enters a window, it automatically focuses that window. I honestly can't use his machine in this state! I checked for any software that might be doing this, nothing installed to move the focus like this. I checked the services running, no non-MS services running. I looked into the control panel mouse settings and also the control panel accessibility settings, I don't see anything for this. Do you guys know if there's some obscure setting in Windows that makes the focus move to whatever window the cursor is over?

I thought there was some setting either in the Mouse Control Panel applet, or through PowerToys, or whatever that little collection of apps was that you get from MS for tweaking the UI.

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Pointer Options -> Snap To

I remember there was a PowerToy that did this many many years ago. I googled and found this: http://www.miken.com/winpost/oldart/jan96/jan96_tip.htm[^] The Xmouse powertoy does it. The page says it is for Win95, so I don't know if it still works in XP or Vista. I know it might not be much help, but at least it's a pointer ;P

TweakUI powertoy for Xp has a setting under mouse for X-mouse (Activation follows mouse checkbox). If he has TweakUI installed, try disabling this (clear checkbox). Or download TweakUi [^] and see if it can fix it.

Maybe I'm blind, but I see no such option in the "Pointer Options" tab.

I've looked through the mouse control panel and the accessibility panel without any luck. Maybe I'm just blind. TweakXP isn't installed.

What's your Windows? My is Windows Server 2003 SP2. (I think that the control panel is equivalent to WinXP SP2)

If your Windows doesn't show that option, try Control the Mouse "Snap To" Feature (All Windows)[^] :-D
