Error : Attempted to read or write protected memory

I have an asp.net application using C# code. When I try and view the pages in design mode I get 'error creating control' messages with 'Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt' Anyone have any ideas as to what causes this?
