Harry Potter 7 [No spoiler]
-
So, I am in the middle of the last Harry Potter, and so far, I am quite disappointed (Yes, I know, I can already read some of you guys writing "And what kind of great literature did you exactly expect from Harry Potter..."; but still, I enjoyed the first 6 books). Maybe my expectations were too high, but there is virtually no story, no suspense, nothing interesting that would prevent me for putting the book off. The plot is soooo slooooow for the moment, it is like it suddenly got back to what it originally was, a children story. OTOH, the beginning of the second book of the Lord of the Rings was not that entertaining neither (that's the part when they are walking, walking, walking, ...) and it finally turned out awesome. Do not get me wrong, I would not dare to compare LOR to Harry Potter, not playing in the same courtyard, LOR is my ultimate reference.

It turns out awsome. It twists and turns and it gets darker and looks increasingly hopeless and just when you think you have it figured out it twists again.

Fine. Now you got me interested again (who said i get easily influenced :) ?) And did you feel the same as I did about the scenario not going forwards ? Or is it just me... ?

If you are still with the bit of Ron, Harry and Hermione with the tent then that bit does drag a little.

I honestly don't think the books in the series past book Goblet of Fire can be labeled as children's fiction. Death and dying becomes a weightier theme with each consecutive novel till seven which as my wife put it is a blood bath (also JKs words and not a spoiler). Just a point... AAron

It can serve to remind people that we are lucky in the west that children have not had to deal with such things since my grandparents generation. War is horrific and we must not forget that.

Harry Potter 7 is my favorite HP book. As with all HP books things happen quite fast in the later half. I have re-read last chapters many times. I will be surprised if you hold the same opinion after finishing the book.

Just go on reading. There is indeed a moment Harry does not really know how to proceed. You must feel that in the book. I think this is OK. The end is really thrilling.

That is what I tried to point out, actually. The first books were indeed children stories, and it got harsher and harsher, book 6 (I cannot tell for 7 yet) was really nothing anymore for kids. And this is confirmed by how the movies get rated. And my feeling was that for the first part of book 7, the story got more "candy". But I am indeed just in the part with "Ron, Harry and Hermione in the tent" that Colin mentionned, so let's see what comes next.

I agree. That bit went on forever. I think she had the start and the end all planned out and kinda forgot about the middle of the book. Does end well though.
Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine, which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis. I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

No spoilers, but I must say, I kinda felt the who,le explanation bit at the end was just cheating! Write a story that kinda mashes together, but as you cannot get that across just explain it all at the end!! I do not want to say anymore as it will be a plot spoiler.

My Fiance has bought book 7 while I had no read any of them even though I've seen all the films. I've since read book 1 and 2 and storming through book 3. Hopefully she wont spoil what happens in book 7 for me before I read it!

You are in for a treat. The mythos starts to get heavier in book 4 and just continues to flood from the remaining books. It really is interesting to see how the books seem episodic to start with and by the time you get into 5 they are more of a continual story till you get to 7. Aaron
