A psychotic-looking alien creature with detached hands who shows up on every page in the site, who stares at me endlessly...as if it is just waiting for me to blink so that it can attack. Oh wait... :bob: Man, this site has everything. :-D

I would like a link on the left hand side called 'Picture of a small dog', and when clicked it shows a picture of a small dog. Also, it would be nice to have background sound as well, which depending on your membership level is either the sound of fingernails down a blackboard, a small dog (possibly the one from the picture above) constantly yapping each time you hover over a hyperlink, or the sound of an apple being thrown against a large cow.

Hey Josh, what are you drinking? And did you bring enough for everyone?
With respect, I must disagree. A quick look at middle management in just about any corporation shows that the dodo not only survived, it's reproducing in record numbers. Christopher Duncan

Just for interest, what is the sound of an apple being thrown against a large cow? and would it make a good 'SMS Text Arrived' sound? All the Best Julian

No idea - always thrown them from a distance. They always look peeved (the cows, not the apples), when it hits them, so I don't hang around. I would imagine it would be a dull thud. The cow would stop chewing the cud, look around (peeved) and then carry on eating, pleasantly surprised when it finds the apple, and yet, at the same time bemused as it knows it wasn't there when it first meandered over to the area. What I always find funny watching a large heard of cows is how much urine they pass, and at such a force. Never fails to amuse / amaze me. Being small bladdered myself, I also feel a little envious. Just imagine if they had beaten humans up the evolutionary ladder, and they went out on the raz on a Friday night? Wouldn't fancy cleaning out the gents after closing.

(1) it would be easier to encourage "Shared Authorship". Generally, people don't bother that much giving back changes, and I don't want everyone to meddle with my sources. No amount of source control would change that. (2) To many holes for rigging, and I find long term popularity works quite well. "How many peple bother to vote" is a good measure.
What I'd like to see: Maybe allowing the author to open up the article for editing to "Contributors". (Currently, you have only "authors" at the same level) A "Sandbox submit" where the article doesn't go live yet, but can be reached through an URL, and edited by the wizard. The full update cycle requires a lot of preparation to get through the wizard - allowing incremental updating before the article goes life would make publishing much easier. Extending that to an "Update Sandbox", where you can update an article incrementally and review it before it goes life would even be better - and a valuable tool for shared authoring. Contributors might be allowed to edit the sandbox, and the author can say "that's ok, publish!" But I can find many problems with all that, too.
