How many hours do you work?

I am just curious how many hours most cpians actually work. I have been doing programming for a while and find I have a fairly addictive personality, so hours work does not mean a whole lot to me. But, my loving wife is always rattling my cage about working too many hours. So I am just curious what number of hours is the norm for people who come on this site. For me, a problem I have is I love what I do and I have a commitment to deliver, even if it requires occasionally extra hours. On average I work about 50-55 hours a week with some 60-70 hour weeks peppered in. Just Curious? Aaron

The normal work hours in India would be like 7 to 8 hours. But if there is a crucial deliverable, we ought to start from home at 0400 hours and return back sometime around 0300 hours the next day. :)

I spend around 9 hours actually working (so don't count my lunch break) 9x5 is 45 hours on a normal week, which occasionally goes up to 60 hours. I am available for questions during the evening though, but luckily that doesn't happen too often ;p. I left my last job because I worked 60h standard and 80-100 hours often. Then they said my input was "OK". :wtf: I didn't get paid much there either... You should be flexible and motivated, but there are limits... ;-)

I always answer the same thing : Sometimes not enough, sometimes too much. I love my job, and as much as I like being in front of a computer coding, I must get out, see other things and set my eyes on other people not related to my job.

I often stare into my eyes in the mirror. It's cool how deep and black the pupils are, and how blue my irises are, and how the muscles enlarge and contract all the time. I sometimes stare into other people's eyes as well, but this often makes them uncomfortable, and they say I'm creepy.

Exactly, the hardest part is the fact that I feel guilty that I enjoy it so much and don't even realize the hours I am working, but she counts and notes every hour I work... If only she would truly realize how much I enjoy this work, I have tried to tell her, she thinks there should be other stuff and then complains when I go head over heels into a subject or two every other week. At my current job around 40 hours per week. During quarter end I might have to put in a few extra hours.

Generally I work what I'm paid to work. 37.5 hours a week. Sometimes I work a little longer if the deadline is looming.

40 hours a week. Any more and they'd have to pay me overtime (Which happends more often then i'll admit).... so its the employees job from there. Quite possibly the only benefit of contracting.

80-90 hours in an average week + 8-10 hours travelling. I probably earn less per hour than a burger flipper, but at least I enjoy my work. ;P

It depends on how close we are to a deadline and if we count the hours I work at home. I never just work 40 hours but there have been times where I have gone several months in a row of 80 hour weeks and I do not get any overtime.

On my consulting work, I log about 15 - 20 hours a week. I expect I am far from the norm on this site. But, I have two other businesses that generate income for me.

My contract says 39 hours/week. Sometimes it is a little more, sometimes it is a little less, but in the average I actually work 39 hours.
