Have you ever had one of those really annoying clients? Geesh! Several months ago I sold a simple webpage to these real estate agents. It was entirely original HTML I wrote - but for $300.00 I'm not exactly going to busy my ass for several days. I get this voicemail. "We want to sit down with you and have a meeting to discuss our website." It had the tone like they were going to threaten lawsuits. Three months later! I was very clear in what the $300.00 would buy them... Plus, I haven't even charged them for website hosting, whereabouts I was hosting it on my own servers! Then again, it's not like the total 1532 kilobytes of data transfer from all those hits they get is really taxing to the server...but still! Oh, the woes of being an independent computer consultant. Just ranting. Thanks for listening. I've got worse horrow stories. Anybody here got client/boss horror stories to share?

I did some consulting for a mom and pop contracting company (a body shop) to evaluate a potential business opportunity. Did 12 hours @ an agreed upon $50 per hour. It was more than a year before I got paid, partially because I didn't give them the answer they wanted (told them the opportunity wasn't a good one) so it was easy to ignore me. I finally did get paid because they needed me again. In their defense, I didn't push the issue because I like this group and the daughter did accounts payable and she's a flake. Worked out ok since I didn't make an a** of myself I maintained a relationship that has paid multiples of the the original dollar amount. Money is many times less important than other considerations, as long as things don't get out of control. I work as a consultant for a very large company and will give time away as an investment to get the big deal. ;) Mike

Advise them that you would be happy to sell them a maintanence service to go with the $300 website you provided them. Once they have signed up you will be more than happy to schedule meetings with them. cheers, Chris Maunder

$300 for a webpage? Why am I the only person who thinks prices like this for stuff we can type in our sleep is extremely overpriced? - Jason (SonorkID 100.611) In the beginning, teachers taught the 5 W's: who, what, where, when, why. Now it's just a big damn G

Well $300 dollars doesn't seem like a lot to me, but then I base my pricing on the number of hours it'll take and not the technology I'll be using. Michael :-) "Eureka" is Greek for "This bath is too hot"
