Does anyone know where I can find a connection diagram for connecting a PS/2 keyboard device to a USB port? These adapters don't seem to be readily available in the shops I have tried and I want to make one up myself.

I would imagine that you will need more than just a wiring diagram! I have seen USB to PS/2 adapters (USB keyboad plugged into a PS/2 slot), but not the otherway round

PS/2 to USB (and visa versa) adapters are only avalible for devices that support USB and PS2 hence USB to PS2 being widly avalible as most keyboards and mice that have a USB connector support both. It's onyl some odd brands that have the other way around.

Yes, it looks like I'll have to buy a converter component and fit connectors myself. If not for the complex PCB required, it would not be too hard to build, but it's not worth the effort or cost in this case.

Not really, assuming you have a usb cable and a PS2 port that you can cannibilise the connectors from.

It's not just a matter of connecting pin1 to pinA on the other side of the plug. The signaling used is completely different, so the adapter either needs to tell the device to send the other type of data down the wires (which requires an input device supporting USB and PS2), or a microcontroller to convert the signal in real time. That's why all the adapters that come with keyboards and mice are to turn a USB device into a PS2 one, the former requirement also means the adapter might not work with any other vendors hardware at all.

-- You have to explain to them [VB coders] what you mean by "typed". their first response is likely to be something like, "Of course my code is typed. Do you think i magically project it onto the screen with the power of my mind?" --- John Simmons / outlaw programmer

You do get some vendors who did PS2 to USB.

Hello :) I don't know where you are looking, but I've found very easilly an adapter to connect PS/2 keyboard and mouse to a USB port. I'm using it at home to work with an old keyboard on my laptop...

Major retail computer stores in South Africa. I'm sure I could find one from a more techniclaly oriented vendor, but that can wait for now. I've written a little program that emulates the scanner by sending keystrokes to a target application.
