Any Guitar Heros here?

I wish I could. :( I bought myself a nylon stringed acoustic a month ago. I can take a few chords, but that's about it. It seems that just to become anywhere near newbie status, a lot of time is needed. Something which I don't have. I have however found out of incredibly weak my fingers are. I played a little on a steel stringed guitar, and man - do I have sissy finger tips or what? :sigh:

Yup, they're on. Loved them. :) I love playing these songs, because I already know the rhythm. That makes playing the game a hell of a lot easier, as I don't have to worry much about the "strumming", and concentrate on the "frets" (I use citation marks so that you won't fall off your chair laughing ;P).

It's probably a profit optimization issue. If they really had wanted to make it an excellent 80's game, then they would've put some effort into it. Guitar Hero III[^] and Rock Band[^] sure look like they're going to be excellent games. I can't wait...

Yeah, I remember that phase. It goes quick enough. Thing is, nowadays, you can buy guitar tab books that show you exactly where to put your fingers to play most songs. So, all you really need to do, is to practice until you have the manual dexterity to do it. Your fingers get tough soon enough.

I have only the vaguest idea how the game works, but if it came in a LH version, I'd get it.

Yeah, some of the choices are so odd. Holy Diver next to I ran ? I hope to see Dio live one day, I saw Heaven and Hell, and he is just amazing. I also bought the remaster of Holy Diver, great album. Oh - the song list on Rock Band is good, even if it does have Nirvana. Love the Who...

Have you tried the new Rocks the 80's[^] variety? I've been playing it now since it was released (July 27th), and I've found it to be exceptionally easy compared to Guitar Hero II. It also doesn't have any unlockable songs - only 30 songs. The last song Play With Me by Extreme, must be the lamest encore ever Guitar Hero series. WTF? I can't even remember hearing it. Granted, I was only 5 by the time the 80's began, but still. If it's a good song, I ought to have heard it before and remembered. The game is also only available for the PS2. I suggest you save your money for Guitar Hero III and/or Rock Band (released in December as it looks now). GH Rocks the 80's really isn't worth the money in my opinion. Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen my little brothers play GH quite a bit and I want to get it, and after your suggestion, I think I'll wait for GH III :) BTW, what's wrong with I wanna rock and Round and Round? Those two are probably the only songs worthy on 80's :)

You can flip the guitar... Although, the whammy bar will be hard to handle then.

The order of the songs aren't based on style, but difficulty. The further down on the list, the harder the song is (generally). If you get the chance, you should really try the game. It's very much fun (also very addictive! :-D)

In the first instance, they are covers, so you're not playing along with the original. Second, have you not heard Balls to the wall or Holy Diver ? I love Ratt and TS ( saw both at Rocklahoma recently ), but Accept and Dio are at least in their league.

Yeah, that song was their biggest hit, they spent the rest of their career trying to get that sort of chart success again. They were a good hard rock band, but they were never going to match the success of that song, much as I like other songs of theirs better.

I don't play it ( I am a lefty guitar player, I'd rather crank a CD and REALLY play along ), but I am a huge Extreme fan, I've not heard of that song, it must be a non single from the first album. Weird. Still, I was learning 'Holy Diver' for real last night, what a great song. I thought 'Balls to the wall' was on this one, too ? No ? Given that they're not by the original artists, I wouldn't bother with it, that just sucks. Some of the song choices are weird, I'd suggest that they were driven by what the bands allowed ? \m/ \m/ Holy Diver, one of the best metal albums and songs EVER! I've been playing with several acoustic variations of it lately an it does go into some odd musical directions.

For a free PC variety, check out frets-on-fire. You use your keyboard (holding it upside down) as a guitar. Not the real thing, but it's fun anyway.

Been there, done that. It works well with the xbox controller (USB). :)
