Anyone in the Toronto area using Bell DSL service? I was wondering what you thought of the d/l speed and QOS compared to Rogers. Thanks, /ravi

Heh.  I'm less than enthralled with Rogers' service record. When it works it's great, but the all too frequent service interruptions are getting to me. Also, if I select DSL, I won't have to snake CAT5 from my living room to the bedrooms. /ravi PS: Belated congratulations to you guys! :rose::cool:

I was pretty happy with Rogers. They pulled the extra cable to my bedroom for free. But yeah, once in a while their service would go down for 10-15 minutes at a stretch - which can be quite annoying.

Ravi, I'm using the Bell DSL, and I live in midtown (near Bayview/Eglinton). I just did a speed test: http://www.speedtest.net/result/173160623.png[^] 4280 kb/s download 673 kb/s upload I don't have any hard stats, but subjectively the speed always seems consistent, and that download speed is enough that I can download 300 MB+ files in a few minutes. Any more speed would be a waste for me, so I didn't go for Bell's fiber optic offer (IIRC it was about $90/month). The only service interruption I've had was when a squirrel chewed through the telephone line going across the back of our property. I can't really fault Bell for that, since the cable line is in the same location, so the same thing could have happened if I'd been on cable. I pay $45.95/month (Canadian $) which includes the model rental, but I get $5 off of that for a "bundle discount". (If applicable) you should also consider your TV and mobile-phone decisions and go with one company for all of them. You can usually get a decent discount that way (say $10 - $15 / month). Hope that helps... Warren

Usually with Bell (Sympatico in Montreal), I always manage to get a discount. I call them and ask when is my renewal date, because I want to change provider. They ask me why, I say I'm very happy with the service they offer, but I can find cheaper.. It usually ends up with them matching the other (29.95$/month instead of 44.95$) If it does not work, I hang up and call again, and again, and again until it works :-D

Thanks for the info, Warren! I'm moving to an apartment building at Yonge & Sheppard and expect I'll receive about the same speed. /ravi

I used this tactic regularly with Comcast Cable in Mass.  It worked for me 3 times out of 4.  Maybe they wised up. :) /ravi

Moving so fast? I thought your current apartment was at Sheppard and Yonge too.
