15% is a slight overestimate according to these stats[^]. Yes, only one data point. W3Schools[^] reports nearly 35%, but these stats are only from their own site which is of course used by web developers.

Ain't that the truth! I imagine all the Video On Demand "services" that you've signed up for make that a bit difficult to do :)

:omg: Well, I've never had problems with FF. I only use it for browsing CP, mail, news and sport sites though. I've never done web development with FF. Then I hope the next release to be more stable. I don't like the idea of switching to Opera or... or... or... [trembling]IE7[/trembling]

Why on earth not? It's easily the best browser out there from many different points of view. The only reason I don't use it as my main browser is CodeProject is nearly completely incompatible with it for mysterious reasons.

Well, that should be enough reason for anyone... :) Jokes aside... I tried Opera some time ago (like 2 years ago, I believe). Didn't like it. Besides it had lots of ads. After Opera I tried Firefox and liked it. It has this cool features that at the time neither IE nor Opera had, such as the tabs window. But that was a while ago, I know. Maybe Opera is better now (from my point of view). But I don't really feel like changing. I'm really used to FF and have no reason at all to switch. Well, I tried to when IE7 was released (I even tried the betas X|), but no thanks. Perhaps, if one day my dogmatic point of view about the topic becomes a little more flexible, I'll try Opera again.

So sez wii we just got one of those. pretty dang cool little game console ! Not sure why I need to spend 5 bucks for a web browser, but i did. (And Galaga 90 !) It hooks to your wireless network and updates it's os just like windows :) I like that little white box. Especially since I can download those old nintendo 64 and snes games. My son and I split the cost - $120 a piece. I like it. ...Steve http://shazware.com

Already commented on that[^]. As i said, the guy has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to FF. The ad-blocking rational is pure hypocrisy - there are no shortage of blocking techniques and programs for other browsers; heck, i recall seeing ad-blocking hosts files sent around - as well as software to automatically install and update it for those who didn't care to mess with it manually - long before the rise of Firefox.

That's his prerogative, as are allowing or disallowing the use of advertising techniques such as pop-ups, click-throughs, and IntelliTxt. Some sites find these heavy-handed methods useful, and perhaps CP will as well one day... personally, i hope not.

Hmm... I last tried it a few months ago, but it was working fine then (Opera 9) - i mean, you could view messages and post and such.

i keep firebug disabled. i run Greasemonkey (because i have a few scripts to strip comments from certain blog commenters) and nothing else. just loading David Byrne's Journal kills this latest version of FF for me, every single time. and i get random crashes two or three times a day. this never happened with the last version.
I use Greasemonkey and a whole host of extensions. My plan was to selectively disable them and see what happens. But so far I've only had to disable Firebug and clear the Download manager.
Chris Losinger wrote:

This was happening to me right before I decided to investigate. That was about a week ago and it hasn't crashed since. (Actually, I was getting bad hangs rather than crashes.) I too remember 1.5 being more stable. Here are my Extensions: Adblock Plus (blocks a lot of ads) Adblock Filterset.G Updater (goes with the above) Answers (for the 1-click answer web site - there's also a separate Windows download) British English Dictionary (this is for spell-checking in forms) CustomizeGoogle (excellent) Download Statusbar (very useful) Dragdropupload (this is extremely useful - something so obvious, you wonder why it's not standard) Fasterfox (not much use) FFClickOnce (allows Firefox to run .NET ClickOnce applications) Firebug (for debugging web pages, though haven't needed to use it much so far - but it did highlight a problem in a greasemonkey script) FireFTP (FTP client, pretty good) FoxyTunes (control any media player from Firefox - really cool) Google Notebook (excellent) Google Toolbar (excellent) Greasemonkey (excellent) installed scripts for Greasemonkey - Advanced Google Keys (use keys to browse search results) - very useful Try this search on (adds links to other search engines - similar to CustomizeGoogle but complements it, especially if you start with another search engine and then want to switch search) CPhog (only useful if you hang out at codeproject.com, for which it's brilliant) GPE (adds a preview button to Google Reader that allows you to view article in a frame) IETab (load current page in IE in firefox tab with single click - excellent) PDF Download (allows for saving as PDF or HTML) Tab Mix Plus (more intelligent tab management - for example the tab close button is always visible, Ctrl+Tab works properly, e.g., as per Visual Studio) Cooliris (excellent)

Opera's been ad free for over a year now. Opera was tabbed a year (2000) before Mozilla (2001) was. Opera's tabbed UI is also better IMO than FFs. FF uses a straitup tab control, O uses a tab strip to select between MDI child windows. This lets you do side by side comparisons between tabs by unmaximizing the tabs instead of having to copy one into a new top level instance first. It also handles popups more naturally as unmaximized child windows.. FF either has them as separate top level windows or in tabs but forcibly maximized.
