Hi It is a great day for all Microsoftonians. Oracle and the contract crisis: http://news.com.com/2100-1017-935394.html Spread the joy :) It is good to hear someone else stepped into pile of shit with the government and this time it isn't MS. There has been numerous complains about Microsoft's licensing schema, well talk about being overcharged $41 million dollars - courtesy of Oracle. Quotes... "At another point, Mehta asks whether Oracle would "consider making a charitable contribution [to] Stanford" and earmark it to support the son of a state senator who was a student at the university." "Herb Wesson--While we have already made a contribution to Herb, I believe as speaker he will be very helpful to Oracle. I am planning a dinner meeting with Herb...on the 22nd of January. I'd like to give him a check for $10K at the dinner." "Marco Firebaugh--We should deliver the 10K check that you originally requested. I would like to do this at the dinner with Herb." Oracle sucks, their product sucks ( at least the front end is so bad that they should all be shot for it ), and if I see Larry Ellison in the gleam of my headlights one rainy night, I won't be slowing down. For example, the table view has a scrollbar. If I scroll it too far, the display is corrupted, and cannot be restored, I need to close and reopen the view. Almost everything has a refresh problem esp. their java help window that pops up when you view the documentation in a browser. The things which kills me are their error messages they could have done far better job atleast for that. I got a progress dialog when I asked for help, and a message to say that if I pressed cancel, it would close the dialog, but not end the process. I typed in two search words, and 10 minutes later killed the process because it was still searching, and THAT cancel button did nothing.
